Fair enough.

Not necessarily about PT or Wilson but about the genre in general. I think that bands who don't actually do anything progressive shouldn't call themselves prog, especially if they're just doing the same old ****.

Might have said that before in this thread.

Been listening to some Boris recently. Honestly, I could give a **** about drone in general, so their drone stuff leaves me pretty indifferent, but as a stoner/sludge metal or noise rock band, they ****ing rule. But they can keep the drone.

What do you think of this drone? It's not exactly metal, but it's pretty heavy imo.

I know what "progressive" is supposed to mean, but all I associate prog as a label with is basically long form instrumental rock. Maybe back when prog was being codified, that idea was progressive in and of itself compared to the standard. Does that come across as overly cynical?

I think Drone is really cool when it isn't just drone. Like when an artist incorporates drone into their music, it's like a nice dash of pepper, but I don't want to eat a bowl of pepper.

What's the consensus on drone, fellow MBers? Is it unpopular to be a big fan like myself?

I really dig the older stuff such as La Monte Young.

That's Terry Riley on sax, he upstaged Evan Parker by about five years.

I dig some Eliane Radigue from time to time. I think drone is done the most effectively when there's some sense of gradual change.

I don't really believe music can be "bad" per se.

I've seen a lot of music lovers (not necessarily here, mind you, I haven't been here long enough to tell) call songs bad, say they hate albums, etc, whereas I really honestly find enjoyment in almost everything.

Sure I have things I don't like, but I don't necessarily consider them bad and can usually find some enjoyment from them.

I haven't been around many serious music listeners, so I don't know how unpopular this is, but it seems relatively so.
