they do also have similarly awful names. its weird tho I still like some PT songs (Trains, Lazarus, etc). and also I have a soft spot for Karnivool. Sound Awake was my jam back in the day and I doubt ill ever completely hate it. but ya Im not really interested in that biz overall.

Lost sounds is one of the best new wave groups EVER
i dare say is way better than the reatards and the angry angles.

Used to like a couple of albums from Porcupine Tree but returning to those albums just bored me.
Aw. I hate disagreeing with you, but I disagree with everything you've said. However, I will say that in regards to Storm Corrosion, it was a grower for me for sure. Before it's release, I was expecting something like a mixture of Opeth and PT, and that would have been amazing, but unfortunately it didn't happen. I still don't think it's bad though.

I don't understand the dislike for Porcupine Tree around here. They're pretty much my favourite band at the moment and I can't imagine myself growing tired of them any time soon. And for a band who consistently put out great albums they definitely deserve more love.

I don't love Steven Wilson's solo stuff as much but I still enjoy it.

I've tried so many times to listen to them and it just doesn't click. My friend swears by them and loves them on a par with Radiohead. I don't like Radiohead either, so its all lost on me.

Hey Fred, one of the things with PT is that some of the albums are very different from each other. What have you tried so far?

The Incident and Fear of a Blank Planet. I literally listened to them several times and tried to like it. I'm not one of those people that can listen once and dismiss something, it just doesn't move me in anyway. There are several bands like that, where I can even appreciate musicianship but it doesn't click.

That's the era where Wilson was adding much more heavy metal flavors to the songs. You may dig their older stuff where it was much more in a Pink Floyd vein.

Let me know what you think of this. Please stick with it for at least half of it.

I love Fear of a Blank Planet but those two albums only represent one era of Porcupine Tree. My favourite is the Stupid Dream/Lightbulb Sun era where their sound was a little bit more accessible yet still had a lot of the progressive tendencies of their earlier albums.

Sounds more in the vein of Rush then Floyd. A lil too mellow for me if i'm gonna be honest. I'm not discounting their ability but I find the vocals a bit generic. Being honest again I haven't really delved into music like that in a long while so it may just be a reflection of what i've been listening to. Once again I can appreciate them as musicians, but I think i'd need to be out in the Desert in the middle of nowhere to really stick to an album of PT.
