Are you just ignoring the fact completely? Let's do it this way. Wait for Sound Devastation to get on, and let's get his input. He owns a label, and has sided with me on the past about how it is vital to maintain the label's intrest in you.
As many intelligent people as I've met on this site, I'm somewhat shocked that not many of them are seeing our point. So Dustin, looks like it's just us for the moment. But I'm sure someone who actually owns a label is going to know more than any of us....let's wait for some professional opinions. |

where did I say that you have to like it? no, I said you have to respect it. you're a musician right? well, I've personally never heard any of your music. but that's like saying "oh, your music sucks turkey balls." and leaving it at that. no dude, even if I didnt like it, I would still respect the effort that you put into it.

I need the very little money I have to pay for college and buy the occasional thing for my girlfriend, I don't make enough money to purchase albums. I'm sorry i'm not some rich suburban kid whos parents can buy everything for him, or some 30 year old with a high paying job. I can't afford to buy CDs, but i'm not going to make myself suffer by only listening to the albums I have just so I can look like some moralistic saint. I have no problem with people downloading my music, infact I encourage it because I can barely get any exposure here aside from my town. People who listen to my stuff from like, england & alanta would have no other way to listen to it all if I didn't upload it. I don't make music to make money, though I do enjoy getting money for it, but I make music because I find it fun and enjoy people hearing what I do and what do you do for your music scene? Oh, bitch about downloading on musicbanter. |

Last time I checked Ethan, you aren't exactly mainstream. You aren't doing it for a living. You're 15 years old. There is no need to be arrogant by completely ignoring my point. I have to constantly loan out money, I don't make much, and I can barely pay for gas to get into town like once a damned month . But guess what? I still buy cd's. I still see the liner notes where the band thanks the fan for purchasing their cd. Of course you don't care if your music is downloaded, you're a student and not focusing on music as a full time way of support.

Once again, "I can't afford to buy CDs" if I could, I probaly would buy the occasional CD. But I can't, all my money is going towards college and I take out the occasional bit for my girlfriend, and for random things such as sound proofing. I don't see the point your making other then "downloading is bad 'cuz if you download the band is gonna get kicked off the label". Which is a pretty bad point when you look at bands like the arctic monkeys. |

Crowquill, I understand what you're saying, and that's fine if thats what you choose to do with your music. No problem there. You just dont understand what WE'RE saying. So maybe you just love knowing that people are actually paying attention to your music, that's fine. And maybe you don't care if you make any money off of it as long as people are listening, that's fine too. But you have to understand that not all bands are like you. Bands that are already getting exposure depend on sales, period. If you're going to college, then a career in music is most likely not what you're pursuing. But there are bands that want to do what they love to make a living. Not just to work at some ****ty job and play at local clubs whenever they have the spare time. If you truly love music, then you should be able to understand why some bands only want to play it. And if they can make a living just from their music, then why not? That's their ultimate goal. Plus, if they do have a career in music. They have more time to focus on the music that they produce. Thus, making it that much better. But they need the money to support all the time they're spending trying to make the best product possible. Look at it this way, do you think Wal Mart would still be around and be such a big franchise if they just invested money into everything in the store and just gave it away for free without making any profit? of course not. You have to spend money to make money. So if bands invest alot of time and money into making music, and they get nothing back....then just like any other business, IT WILL DIE.
