Those weren't just my assumptions. I can cite plenty of artists who have done interviews and said exactly what I did. And yes sainthood, unfortuneatly most people could care less about supporting the music, as long as they get what they want for free.

And you aren't using the income for a living, and I doubt you'd fire yourself if you didn't make a profit. I'm not saying the net doesn't give more exposure, I'm saying it doesn't give the labels a profit and that is potentially harmful to the band.

The trend is to download for free, see if you like it, then buy the cd. |

BZZZZZZZ Wrong answer You do know the average band takes 2% - 5% of the money from album sales. The Rolling Stones last tour took made approx $360 million in revenue. Would you like to work out how many albums it would take them to sell to make up that kind of money?. I`ll give you a clue , it`s around 50 million.

Or like 99% of people, download for free, see if you like it, keep the mp3's and not buy the cd. Not every band is going to care if you download once they get popular, I've even heard Disturbed say at a live show, to get the cd and they didn't care if you bought/stole/downloaded it.
And urban, if you had read more carefully I said album sales were to keep the attention of the record label. |

Ok, here's my 2 cents.
If you've never heard a band and are curious about them....download it just to see if you like it. I always download atleast 2-3 songs by the same band just to make sure. But if I like it at all, then I buy the album. But I agree with some of you. Buying an album for 1 song isnt worth it. But you have to understand that even on the "**** tracks"...there's still effort put into them. There may not be that much effort, or you may feel like there could have been more put into it, but there's still some amount of effort. And you have to respect them atleast trying to make it work. The bottom line is....as stated by several others before me, if you like a band, support them. Because if you don't, then the label will most likely drop them because they're not selling enough records and then you'll be forced to get online and bitch and whine and complain about it. Saying "Damn, I really liked that band, it sucks that they're not around anymore." Why would you want to kill something that you love? Why do bands strive for a record deal so much if they could make more money off of just touring and merchandise sales? The more support they get from you, the more support they get from their labels. |
