Until I joined this forum I found all my music by myself, albeit using methods like allmusic.com... a lot.

Ironically, I recently started listening to the music I grew up with my dad listening to, like Massive Attack, because I ignored it for the longest time as simply "my dad's music" while I listened to punk rock and the sort.

You guys.

Until I joined here I just liked the same old trash that the radio played. Plus or minus a few bands.

I always thought top 40 was all there was. But a good friend got me into great music, from there I just used the internet. As soon as I got a better music taste, I also went to bars where the music was good, and I got more friends with an even better music taste. And to be honest, MB has gotten me into some really cool bands.

My dad influenced me a lot, he got me into bands like Queen, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and Velvet Underground. My uncle got me into riot grrrl music, and bands like The Slits and Patti Smith.

See, my parents sucked. They listen to some crappy oldies station and the cds they bought were Garth Brooks and LeAnn Rimes. There are many videos of me singing "Achy Breaky Heart" with all the lyrics and a little dance routine. Although my mom disliked most rock, she LOVED Alice Cooper so that's the ONLY good thing she taught me.....that Alice Cooper is awesome.

I thought of another one. My friend Sami has pretty good taste in music, we exchange bands sometimes. She introduced me to 30 Seconds to Mars, Atreyu, Smoking Popes, a few others. For this I thank her. My friend Lindsay got me into symphonic rock with Nightwish.

A lot of it was up to me though, searching around online. Even today I sit around and just listen to bands on myspace. I just love music.
