I'm not trying to be controversial, indie kids piss me off.

God knows theres good indie bands, but I think in general, there are even more bad indie bands than mainstream bands, Bright Eyes makes any Nickelback clone sound promising by comparison. And yes, sometimes a band dosen't get a record deal because they're "too fresh", "too original" and "too challenging" but 70% of the time it's simply because they suck ass, Indie kids would listen to any garbage Pitchfork Media told them to, the whole "non conformist" image of Indie is purely fake, Indie labels are in it for the money like everyone else, the Indie trend is pure capitalism that poses as something revolutionary... Maybe I am generalizing, but I see it as a fact, and I wish more people would realise it.

lawl you are retarded and don't really know anything. You have a warped internet message board forum idea of what "indie" kids are like. It really baffles me how you could even type that out with a straight face. Indie music stands for independant. Bands that, for the most part, do **** on their own. Every label wants to make money but that is not their chief goal. It's apparent in the bands they sign. I don't think they're looking at those bands and go, oh man they're gonna make me a ton of money and blow up and be hella popular! Cos it doesn't happen that way.

You seem to have a distorted view of "indie" music. It's not a sound. It's not death cab for cutie. get ****ed.

What bright eyes have you actually heard? Cause thats a complete bull, yeah if you heard something off of a collection of songs I suppose but for the most part everything bright eyes has done>>>>>>>nickelback. And indie is a veryvery large group of bands to bash like that. Besides, like 80% of punk artists were indie bands.

ALL punk was "indie" at one point. All real punk anyway.

I think you will find most of the original punk movement was on mainstream labels

I tend to like underground artists, or the music from back when they were underground better. But it's really hard to get your hands on cds over here... So I usually get stuck buying mainstream stuff.

So you're saying they started out on big labels? I don't really believe that.

So is the mainstream, so to bash the mainstream wouldn't be any less closed minded... And like mainstream music, indie isn't a genre, and truth be told, every band starts out as indie pretty much, and many indie bands become mainstream (Modest Mouse), it's the bands who gain a reputation as being Indie and trying to make it into some kinda of fashion trend that I'm generally refering to... It's bands who devote themselves to the most primitive, miminalistic, non representive music possible whom I greatly dispise, and I don't dispise many bands.

And I have heard enough Bright Eyes to know that I generally can't stand them, if you like them that's fine... I'm not in the position to question your tastes just as I wouldn't tollerate you to question mine.
