I think making a greatest hits album is kinda redundant nowadays.
90% of the time all the songs are already on a musician's previous CD's. And most of the songs I'll ever like by any band are just a click away anyhow. But I do still buy greatest hits albums from certain musicians.

The only good greatest hits album i've ever heard was the Blue Oyster Cult one, that one had most of my favorite BOC songs on it and yeah, it was good. But most do suck, probably about 99% of them.

depending on the number of tracks if you get one that only has about ten to twelve songs it sucks, and the type of songs that are on it tells you if it is a good album, Greatest Hits albums are good previews of the group, you get most of the songs that people enjoyed on the radio,......so i like Greatest Hits albums depending on the group and number of tracks

I don't see the point, at least not for me and my ideas on music listening. If I like a band, I'd rather get their albums and get more of their music. I'm also very big on listening to full albums, front to back.

no...prog being the bes genre itself, happens to have very long compstions, IE Yes Tales From Topographic oceans is an *80 + minute song, and therefore could neve r been on a compilation, and compilations for prog would be weak for each album is a listening experience on its own.. take Pink Floyds DSOTM, Animals, or anything after

Mnaah, I don't like people telling me which songs were the best. They just did well, but it doesn't mean they are my favorites. I prefer owning multiple cds of an artist.
So... NAY!

I have the Guns & Roses, Smashing Pumpkins and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers greatest hits cds. The first two were great... and my ears forced me to get more Smashing Pumpkins CDs, but as for the Chilli Peppers one... bleh, it was only like 50 minutes long and only had hit songs, and it didnt even have all of them.
