Keith Emerson Vs. Rick Wakemen
The epic battle of Prog Rock's most talented Keyboardists . Who do you think would win?
Emerson hails from ELP, and Wakemen has a lucrative history with the symphonic Prog legend YES. P.s See the hsitory thread for info about Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that. |

Wakeman is my favorite, but Emerson is the superior keyboard wizard.

I do have to say, it's close... Wakeman gets the versatility card, since he plays a greater range of keyboard instruments including Hammond Organ, Mellotron, Moog, Minimoog, Piano and Harpischord... While Emerson rarely ventures away from his standard Hammond and Moog other than his brillant piano work, Wakeman also has a greater ear for tone variety, every Yes album Wakeman appeared on had a totally different keyboard sound than the last... But Emersons solos are generally more complex and unique as well as more technically difficult, his choice of scales and time meters also tend to be more inventive... Both are amazing improvisers, though Emersons compositional skills nudge out Wakemans by just a little bit. In technical terms it's difinetely Emerson, in originallity terms it's Emerson, in creativity terms i'd say it's a tie.

It's really a shame about Emerson's hand. I beleive it's Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
