I was running your list titles through Spotify. I have a playlist specifically for your recommendations. It’s so huge and I’m so backlogged and I’m not exploring as much new stuff this year intentionally. I know I could just listen to your radio show but I like to keep it just bandcamp and Spotify because I’m used to how they function. I try to keep up but with you it’s like a buffet b419 - as much as I want to I can’t eat everything. It’s like you know 20 musicians for everyone I know and I can’t even keep up with my own ****.

I understand, somewhat (except for "b419"), but they really are mixes instead of radio shows,
so what you have are theme-based mixes. If you're in a more minimalist mood, there's a mix for that (or avant, or Anatolian rock, etc.) that you can listen to for 2 or 3 hours. If you move your cursor over the play button at the top, you get various samples from within the mix. They aren't meant to be some sort of frustrating experience, but, rather, just a kind of mood-setter using sounds that you don't usually hear in other playlists. Plus what does it really matter what I know when it comes to these things. If something sounds good, then, yeah you can explore more when the time is right. I look at something like David Byrne's mixes and still wonder why he's so boringly mainstream when there's sooooo much great (or just plain unusual) stuff out there to explore. His commenters just eat it up because, you know, it's David Byrne (!) Anyway, I have fun making them - a creative outlet - and if you find them interesting, then great. After "100," I'm thinking of incorporating playlists based on various issues of The Wire magazine - in random order, of course, so you can explore mixes based on various eras. It may drive me cRaZy (or not). |

I love doing it - it’s just a slow process.

Do you like the idea of just putting those playlists on shuffle and turning it
up while you're doing something creative or constructive around the house? There's bound to be something that you'll hear that makes you feel joyful? I do that in my JQBX room - sometimes by myself or with others (or in other people's rooms). Spoiler for JQBX:

I used to do creative and constructive things and hike and camp and find isolated beaches
It was so many people not leashing their dangerous dogs that could hurt mine that threw me over the ledge. I started carrying my revolver then I thought I’ll just end up in prison so the last constructive thing I ever did was erect that fence so my dog can play safely. I like the homeless because they keep the rent low and keep black truck owners away so the one positive thing I do is bring them juice right before the sun rises. I also respect them as people. I respect that they don’t work and don’t contribute to this hell. Just hearing regular people bbqing or weed whacking or whatever makes me wish they were dead. I’m just ****ing sick of people buying **** and doing ****. Just ****ing stop. Stop existing, seriously. With covid it’s literally stop breathing mother****ers breeding consuming bags of ****. All I have is my old 5s. New music platforms are always too burdensome. That’s why I C&P your playlists into Spotify. William Basinski for Piano and Tape from the 80’s - man he’s been at it a long time - he signed a note when I bought DL1

(though we would all do stuff that bordered on "performance art" in those days). He was more of a traditionalist performer on his clarinet. |
