Favorite Instrumentalists/Sidemen
I know that a favorite guitarists thread has been done, but here just list your favorite instrumentalists, for any instrument... No order or ranking needed... You can stick to rock or include other genres as well, whatever floats your boat.
If this thread has been done before, it thus proves the utter worthlessness of the search button. Boon Tony Iommi Steve Howe Mark Knopfler Tom Verlaine Steve Hackett Robby Krieger Django Reinhardt Pete Townshend Stevie Ray Vaughan Jonny Greenwood Mick Ronson John Frusciante Frank Zappa John Fogerty Thurston Moore Adam Jones John Mclaughlin Jeff Beck George Harrison Angus Young The Edge Eddie Hazel Jerry Garcia Slash Johnny Marr Alex Lifeson Leigh Stephens Phil Manzanera Jack White Omar Rodriguez Lopez Pat Metheny Bass: Tony Levin Flea Les Claypool Charles Mingus Jaco Pastorious Chris Squire Ron Carter Bootsy Collins... no lists for me.. but a few names.
Stephen O'Malley. anyone who can make such horrible yet spectacular noises with a guitar has got to be respected. Toby Driver.. multi-instrumentalist (guitar, cello, bells, double-bass, keyboard) and composer, a young classically trained musician fronting the doom-drone band, Kayo Dot. also a mention to girlfriend/band member Mia Matsumiya (violin, viola). Jim Wyskida, drummer of Khanate. although not recognised as a particularly talented drummer.. to set the rhythum for a band as slow and sparse as Khanate takes some impeccible timing. Keiren Hebden, aka Four Tet... and Venetian Snares. my two favourite electronic artists.

John Evans... Knew i forgot someone.
Loved the piano and organ work on Thick As Brick, though everybody is equally good on that record. |

C'mon kids, it's not like you have to put a whole lot of thought into it... I would just like a little insight into your favorite musicians, don't be shy.

I am a bass player so I have a natural inkling to amazing bass players. My favourite is Billy Sheehan. I love his Melodic sense on Bass which I tend to play (not slap influenced to be honest!) and his to handed tapping is immense!
Guitar players I love are Hendrix (the originator, the innovator!), Clapton (all about his blues man!), James Dean Bradfield (underated, good rythym player, syncopated chords etc...) and Zakk Wylde (just pure ballsy!). I love loads more but these are my main influences. |
