I can't listen to any of their albums without falling a sleep.
I actually saw them live a while ago with a friend. They're actually really amazing live. I didn't feel tired at all.

Poison - Guitar Solo

Music this bad technically shouldn't exist in the first place...to paraphrase Guitar World, "It's like listening to your friend keep screwing up while trying to play Eruption, except in this case he's got a stadium full of idiots cheering him on."

And for the record, I've never heard any Sonic Youth noise that I don't like at least some. Diamond Sea is a great song, noise and all.

Yeah, I know. I love listening to their albums though- they're probably my favourite band.

I'd dump my boyfriend if it meant seeing them again live. And he's the one that got me listening to them

One of the first thigns that intrigued me abuot the band is that hey have a pianist.
They use the piano. Usually when you think or rock bands you don't think of pianos.
But they have a piano. And Jordan Rudess rocks. Him and John Petrucci are two of my favorite musicians of all time.

I still can't believe how long their songs are sometimes. 42 minutes!

loads of bands use piano..

and quite a few have 40 min + songs!

one of my favourite songs actually, 'Cusp' by everlovely lightningheart is 41 mins. Moss' The Gate is the longest i own, at 44 mins, but is unlistenable most of the time :P
but never pointless.

And how many of them are as good as dream theatre or have achieved the same level of success as dream theatre.

how 'good' depends on your personal definition of the word :P

and success should never be a way to judge music.

And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that.

. . .
on this you are right. because a musician has lots of fans and makes lots of money doesn't mean they produce quality music.
50 cent's a perfect example.
But in the case of Dream Theatre, they are a talented band, how much you or anyone else likes them is a whole nother story.
And I measure their talent based on how they make me feel.
I think their music is great but the songs are too long. I like to listen tot hemw hen I'm sleepy. But when I see them live it's such a refreshing feeling.
