Favorite '80s band?
I just got the new Pure 80s #1s compilation and hearing "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" for the first time in a while has me pulling out all of my old Tears for Fears, Cure, Duran Duran, etc. What was your favorite band in the 80s?
|
There were loads of brilliant bands, but my favourite has to be Megadeth.
|
There were loads of great bands in the 80s. My favorite is either Black Flag or the Minutemen.
|

Man i listen to way too much 80's pop. And some of it crosses into early 90's. And some of it's older maybe. But ill give you a list anyway
Fleetwood Mac Bryan Adams Bon Jovi Dire Straits (mark knophler = the shiz) The Kinks INXS Cat Stevens Rod Stewart America Van Morrison Cyndi Lauper (what a daggy 80's hero lol) Megadeath Black Sabbath Led Zeppelin Def Leppard See i have no idea what era all this is. I just know its some of the older stuff i listen to on occasion |
My favorite 80's bands are, there aren't many since there isn't much good music that came out of it.
Bad Religion Black Flag Danzig Dead Kennedys The Eagles The Misfits Queen |

However, the concert did cause my disdain for NIN to grow considerably. |
The Smiths and The Cure
And Sonic Youth. |
The Human League are my favourites but I have a lot of love for Tears For Fears and Level 42. :p:
I've noticed that people my age don't seem to take Tears For Fears seriously because they were around at the same time as bands like Wham! and the like... but they're perfectly happy to take Joy Division seriously. :p: Poor Tears For Fears. |
The Smiths, though i've been really liking Joy Division lately.

I'm not comparing them directly but they were amazing songwriters and people seem to remember them for Mad World and nothing else and they associate them with the massive pop acts of the time. When it comes to Joy Division they take them seriously before they've heard more than Love Will Tear Us Apart.
|
Spinal Tap was pretty good.
|
Smiths, Pogues
|
If we're talking NON wimpy music: The Knack, Blondie, The Shirts, Bangles...
|
I never thought I'd hear 'non-wimpy' and 'The Bangles' in the same sentence. :p:
|
and the Knack...I always considered them one of the definitive bad 80s bands.
|
The knack were only memorable for the immortal MY SHARONA. I like Tears For Fears myself. They never set the world alight but they made good solid pop music.
Prefab Sprout Spear Of Destiny were good bands. |
talking heads
the smiths the replacements psychedelic furs |
Talking heads are classed as a 70's band (debut 77) but good choices.
ART OF NOISE PROPOGANDA Both signed to ZTT (Trevor Horn) done some great experimental stuff in the 80's. |
