It was more my teacher lol. But he's got a great passion for world music, and my friends and I had nowhere else to go.
I'll try to recall all the artists he named that day...

Edit: I just remembered he talked about the violin virtuoso Niccolò Paganini. Some great myth about him metamorphosing into Satan in his latest days, as his talent was so unbelievable it must've been the work of the devil.

dealings with the devil, like Robert Johnson... Frankly i'm more inclined to believe satanic intervention/parental abuse when it comes to those creepy child prodigies they parade around on chat shows

downloaded and listening now after hearing about them in the 'Get Thrashed' documentary:

Voivod 'Nothingface' (1989)

Canadian progressive/thrash metal, but leaning heavily to the prog side, this displays very little of the raw sonic aggression of thrash. Good so far, just much 'proggier' tha I were expecting, like.

great compilation from the Brown Punk label. not sure what "Tricky Presents" means - i don't think he mixed this or anything - seems like a gimmick to me.

but there are a few tracks here from Starving Souls, which is Tricky's first manifestation back in 1995. these tracks plus an EP are all that exist from them. these tracks alone make this compilation worth checking out.

also just grabbed this a 48Khz, 24 bit, 5.1 flac audio rip of this bluray:

it's an obscenely large 4gb (avg bitrate about 4000 kbps) but it sure sounds nice

Think mine was "Turn off the Stars" by Turn off the Stars. It's pretty good. Nothing too special.

Emancipator - Safe In The Steep Cliffs (2010)

Organic, tasteful instrumental trip-hop from one of the genre's newest innovators. What a nice way to start off the year!

Ultra - S/T (1975-1977)

Extremely awesome, rare Texan hard rock compiled and remastered in sixteen cuts on one disk, featuring some of the best dual lead guitar I've heard in a lonnnnng time.

Big Big Train - Gathering Speed (2004)

The Underfall Yard was my favorite album of 2009, so I decided to take a few steps back into these modern U.K. proggers' discography. This 2004 release sounds more of a cross between Brit-pop/alternative rock and Genesis circa A Trick of the Tail than TUY, but so far this is a pleasantly lush and emotional listening experience, and better by far than the majority of what gets labeled "neo-prog" these days.

Daniel, Fred & Julie - Daniel, Fred & Julie
Based on two of the three names I know, I can't foresee this being bad.

Two from Anteater

Orne - The Conjuration By The Fire

Moon Safari - [Blomljud]

Bolt Thrower - In Battle There Is No Law
