I didn't bother with it for a long, long time as I was a devoted Tool and APC fan and was too stubborn to consider Puscifer which I thought was just some weird random thing that Maynard had started working on... which it was pretty much.

But then I started reading his blogs about the creation of the first record and it sounded pretty interesting, so when I finally listened to it I quite enjoyed it, probably because of all of Maynard's backstory behind the project. It's something completely different to Tool and A Perfect Circle though, so you've got to distance it before you judge it.

What does it sound like?

Well Maynard himself described the first album from Puscifer, V is for Vagina, as something like "driving around in your car listening to those old Motown hits, James Brown, and cool R&B stuff". So as you can guess it is completely different from his earlier and more well-known musical projects. It's very experimental, very electronic kind-of sound, some may label it as having elements of trip-hop or post-industrial I guess!

It's pretty much just a musical side project he started working on to have fun and mess around and experiment, as opposed to Tool and APC which were very serious and each record was worked on by band members until they felt that they had reached perfection. I think Puscifer is more of a work-in-progress, experimental kind-of thing for Keenan.

Hmm... sounds like it could be interesting. I've always liked his voice but not the proggy aspects of Tool so I wonder if I might like this more.

I've already distanced it, which is why I haven't bothered listening to it. :D If I thought it was anything remotely close to Tool or APC I would have checked it out immediately. And truth be told, I was kind of excited when I heard he was releasing a new project, but can't get past the silly album names, artwork, and the fact that even the sound samples themselves sound very cheesy. Not all music I listen to has to be serious, there's just nothing about this that makes me want to listen to it. Not even the fact that he's one of my favorite singers.

Yeah true, which is why I think I only became attached to it because I has been reading his blogs about his journey through the creation of all of it and what it meant to him and what he had set out to achieve and all of that kind of stuff.

I too however was really disappointed when I found out that MJK's new side project was Puscifer, and I'm still kind-of annoyed that he's putting so much energy into Puscifer instead of Tool or APC.

I still wish that Tapeworm project with Trent Reznor would have seen the light of day. I might not have loved it, but I'm sure it would have been better than Puscifer. As long as Trent didn't do any singing.

I've never heard of him before, but the Natalie Portman single is such a perfect slice of pop melody I had to check out what else he could do.
