just grabbed this and several other albums by Émilie Simon. she starts off very dreamy and atmospheric, then things pick up a bit with some heavier and grungier trip hop sounds, while her latest is all over the place, from plain pop sounds to big jazzy tunes. despite the ever-changing genre of her music, it seems to remain consistently good.

oh, and half the time she sings in french. great voice!

Mew - No More Stories... (2009)

Progressive pop is one of those genres where groups tend to completely miss the mark and create unbalanced messes in an attempt to pull in two generally polarized consumer tastes simultaneously....but Mew's latest nails a win on every front, checks all the right boxes while still managing to hook and conquer its prospective audience with a distinctive yet infectious charisma.

But best of all, even the simplest tracks pack more ideas within a four minute time-frame than some bands conjur in an entire lifetime in the recording studio. And for a bloke like me who pays attention, such is rather quite endearing.

Album of the year? Possibly.

i just grabbed all Erotic Lounge, Buddha Bar, and Saint Germain discs. almost 7 gigs, yikes!

i would rate Buddha Bar on and Saint Germain similarly. the latter is much jazzier while the former is very much in the chillout/lounge category. both make for very good background noise. this kind of stuff is perfect when i want to listen to music, but don't want something good enough to distract my attention.

Erotic Lounge - well, the discs have a lot of cheesy tracks, and not sure yet if i'd recommend it or not...

This is gonna sound so old-fashioned of me but believe it or not, the last CD I bought was an old collection of Billie Holiday greatest hits from a junk sale! :P
