The past two days:
Black Heart Procession - Six and Two All I have to say about this band is my god where have you been all my life. Their music is hauntingly beautiful, so bleak yet so full of life if that makes any sense at all. If you haven't heard these guys before then do yourself a favour and check them out! Blueprint - 1988 New hip hop artist last.fm recommended me and I was pretty pleased with the album I got. It does a very good job at paying homage to the hip hop sounds of the late '80's early '90's yet retains newer influences and beat styles of today. Woodbox Gang - I've Killed Men Been wanting to get these guys for awhile but when I concluded that I'd never find a free download link I buckled and bought it off Amazon. Well worth the 9 bucks because this is some incredibly good Country music. Not quite as dark as some of the other artists I listen to, but there is a somber tone over a lot of the tracks along with a good amount of humor. Maroons - Ambush Haven't listened to it yet but it's Lateef the Truth Speaker with Chief Xcell (of Blackalicious fame) so it's gotta be good. Joey Allcorn - 50 Years Too Late Another one of my Gothic Country artists who I found through my searches. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but I'm pretty adamant that it'll be good. Lucero - 1372 Overton Park savannah was kind enough to send this my way, wasn't even aware Lucero had an album coming out this year but with the lack of new country albums this year I'm excited to say the very least. Pine Box Boys - Arkansas Killing Time I actually bought this album by mistake (I got these guys confused with the Woodbox Gang) but it's one of those happy mistakes, much like I was to my parents. These guys go about things in a very humorous style, some of the lyrics in their songs can be quite outlandish at times, often resulting in nervous laughter. Another fine addition to my ever expanding collecting of darker styled country. |

Haha, when he got off stage, he pretty much got drunk off his ass.
And then Slug (of Atmosphere), Abstract Rude, and Blueprint got on stage and had a freestyle/cypher type thing go on. It was nice.

Mastodon - Crack The Skye I haven't listened to all of this yet but I constantly hear how good it is so I thought it would be worth checking out. Cansei de ser Sexy - Rarities, B-Sides & Live I'm really enjoy this. Insanely catchy and cool to hear all differing versions of songs. Seizure Salad/IndienSoci - The New The Good The Bad and The Ugly Soundtrak I bought this at a Seizure Salad show. They're from Calgary, Alberta and play ambient/experimental/garage rock kind of stuff. I like their variety. Custom album art too. Got it on cd and cassette. Old Crow Medicine Show - Tennessee Pusher Not really my thing but I thought I'd check out an album because I remember Against Me! covered their song Wagon Wheel a couple years ago and I really enjoyed it. Still haven't heard that particular song yet. |
