Miles Davis - Get Up With It (1974) Yet another high point in Davis's discography, and one of the best things he's ever laid to record period. Thanks Terrible Lizard! Talk Talk - It's My Life (1984) Despite being one of the poppiest records that Mark Hollis and co. ever released, it's also a lot better than most would tell you. For as awesome as Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock are, the energy they displayed during their New Wave phase is nearly peerless. I'm liking this a lot! Spyro Gyra - Morning Dance (1979) Although a fair degree sharper, edgier and a hell of a lot funkier on the instrumental side of things than your typical background noise, this here is a classic example of the sort of contemporary jazz that would eventually degenerate to the stuff you hear during Weather Channel reports on T.V. Still, if one had to pick just one album from that oft-maligned tree of elevator muzak to own, this is probably the one to get.

Those are some crazy hexagons... remind me to ask about those on my next consult!

^ One of my old Afro-folk albums that I lost to the mini-crash of '09. ^ The debut from the singer-songwriter behind the Triffids annnnnnnnd... ^ Some weird Australian indie band I picked out at random. The album's ok actually. |
