Hyder Ali - Careless talk.
I think they might be up your alley, reminds me of Sadistik in some ways. The MC is less talented though.

Why do the pictures stay just long enough to fool me before disappearing? Damn them all to hell....

Got me this one at Watts' gig last wednesday:

Jeff 'Tain Watts is just an incredible drum player. The disc also has Branford Marsalis on sax and has some exciting compositions. His performance was even better (without Marsalis by the way).

So Tough by Saint Etienne. I own their first album which I thought was merely ok but so far I find this to be much better.

I love that album. This album was a breath of fresh air in the early Ninties when electronica and dance music was frowned upon by the dungeon masters of grunge.

The sampling and club beats of Sanit Etienne was forward thinking. I thought of them as being closer to Massive Attack, Portishead and the other trip hop bands of the early Nineties. The two albums after So Tough, Tiger Bay (1994) and Good Humor (1998) are even better.

A lot of Saint Etienne's best releases were singles that aren't on any of thier standard release studio albums. I was never fully aware of how good St. Etienne was until I purchased Smash the System which was a 2005 collection of their single froms 1990 to 1999.

My first experience with Buck 65, what else should I get?

Satch - that album looks awesome - I hadn't heard of it previously. I looked it up - '68 w/ Ro Haynes with an exciting looking setlist (anyway the song titles of the original comps are intriquing plus the bonus tracks include Pannonica and My One and Only Love (if I recall)).
What do you think of "Akoustik Band" LP from the 80's w/ Weckle and Patitucci? I love that album and it was the rage when it was current and I was in school w/ all the talk of Weckle's legendary 16 hr-per-day practice regimen and the state-of the art Yamaha (again if I recall) drum kits, instruments and recording techniques. I personally think all that holds up as well as the performances, the orig compositions and standards included, making it still one of my fav's and I imagine one of the best done by a trio. if you're familiar with it too let me know what you think of it and how Sings/Sobs compares. I think it will be interesting to compare the two specimens from the two eras.

Ron - I love Tain's drummin'. I love his Citizen Tain LP but not as much his Bar Talk LP. I'd love to see him play. I guess I wouldn't mind checking out his live Blue Note LP and maybe the one you got there. Do you have Citizen Tain? Does this one compare? Thx.

Well to be honest I've never heard the Citizen Tain album so I can't compare it to that one. I do know this album is definitely worth it. Lots of variation and great performances. Of course he picked an all-star team to play with him. Because there's no piano it's definitely not a standard bop album. Some tunes remind me of old bop others are more modern. I have to give it a couple of more spins but what I've heard so far it's a great Watts album if you're into him.
