fusion of jazz and hardcore, comes off sounding funky and dirty as hell. easily one of the best records SST has ever produced (and that's saying something). Joe Baiza is swiftly becoming one of my favorite guitarists. let me know if you want an up.

[Pretend there's an image of the cover here, it won't let me post one until I make more posts]
The Mars Volta - Octahedron Was very disappointed by this one, I've loved all of their other albums (excluding things like Scab Dates). |

I just found Octahedron boring, it seemed to me like they're getting lazy or something. I know they wanted to go for something different and less crazy, but I don't think they pulled it off well. However, to be completely honest I've only gotten to give Octahedron a single listen, so my opinion may change. I've been sick recently and at the moment I'm actually at Disney World, so I've gotten a lot less listening time than I normally do. I'll give you a more informed opinion when I can. EDIT: I'm giving it a second listen right this moment actually. Last edited by The Abominable Homan; 06-13-2009 at 09:32 PM. |

Listening to the new Placebo... and hey I gotta admit I've always been a fan of the band, but this is REALLY, really good! The whole sound is more authentic, passionate, less polished and there's more diversity in the tracks and its just ****in fun to listen to, definitely doesn't get weighed down at all.... and Brian Molko, love him or hate him, sounds way more urgent this time around...

Alright so after further listening to Octahedron, I've decided it's not as bad as I originally thought.
Is it TMV's worst album? In my eyes, absolutely. Does that mean it's bad? Not really. It may grow on me more, but I think it will always be my least favorite (of all the current releases). Cotopaxi is my favorite song, but it feels so out of place. I think everything is fairly consistent, just it very rarely reaches the greatness they've often had nearly all the way through their older albums, in my opinion. Also, to be more on topic, I just got Maldoror - She. |
