That is a nice pick up! Love that Man Man album, even though I have to admit they are definitely a better live band then a studio band. The Morning Benders' new one is great too.

Kool Keith—Black Elvis/Lost In Space
So far this is my least favorite Kool Keith album of the ones I've heard. It's not bad though, maybe it'll grow on me.

I did really enjoy the Man Man album. I saw they are coming to town in September and it definitely sounds like something I would enjoy live.

One EskimO - S/T (2009). Beautiful subdued British indie rock, hint of electronic elements with awesome vocals and songwriting.

They're fantastic live. I love their albums but I think they sound way better in person.

sidewinder 06-23-2010 09:01 AM

Well then...I should plan to make it to the show. Damn weeknight shows, it's on a Wednesday, 3 days after Pavement's Sunday night show.

Blood Ceremony - S/T (2008)

Postulate, if you will, Black Sabbath riffage and Jethro Tull flutage fornicating wildly and producing female-fronted offspring who grew up to love doom metal. This, ladies and gents, no longer leaves the result to the imagination, and it's quite awesome to behear.

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...500_AA300_.jpg
Carl Anderson - Fantasy Hotel (1992)

Anybody who has seen Jesus Christ Superstar knows who this guy is, but you don't need any of that background to enjoy this surprisingly atmospheric entry into post-80's R&B. It's straightforward balladry in many places. but executed in such a way that every song remains a pleasure.

http://www.parisdjs.com/images/cover..._Tongues_b.jpg
Talking Heads - Speaking In Tongues (1983)

A tad more accessible than Remain In Light, Fear Of Music, etc, but that's not necessarily a bad thing: it has a skittery sort of charm that grows over you like moss...in a good way.

I think when it comes to modern music, I prefer Americana. The great bands from the 00s are few and far between here. We have Arctic Monkeys, Mclusky and a few others though so it ain't all bad.

I posted about this in response to you posting about Shpongle in the weird music thread, but go get some Hallucinogen. It's the guy that does Shpongle's earlier project. Soooo good...I won't say better than Shpongle but it is up there.

And don't expect too much from Crash Love.

Edit: Here's a vid for those interested...Hallucinogen is much more in your face than Shpongle.

I remember looking for some Attack in Black one day and the clerk replied "looks like we don't have any but we do have some Attack Attack". :/

Swirlies - They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days In The Glittering World Of The Salons
This is my second Swirlies album. Blonder Tongue Audio Baton is great but this album just blows my head off! The arrangements and creativity on this album are incredible and it holds your attention throughout. Fantastic stuff.

http://www.plong.com/MusicCatalog/F/...20Metallic.jpg

The Flaming Lips - Clouds Taste Metallic
The current stop on my journey through The Flaming Lips' back catalog. This album has a more crunchier guitar-driven sound and rawer production but the songs shine through brilliantly, and what great songs they are. I'm still trying to work out if there's an overall concept. A very consistent album and gives a good glimpse of what was to come next.

http://dkpresents.files.wordpress.co...02/2313889.jpg

Tim Buckley - Greetings From L.A.
I've been meaning to get into this guy for some time. This album was a steal at €3.99 so i couldn't say no. A really great passionate blues-rock album and his vocal style is pretty awesome.

http://www.thechemicalbrothers.com/b...286&h=266&zc=1

The Chemical Brothers - Further
Listening to this right now. Pretty good so far but nothing spectacular, it seems to be missing one of those awesome Chemical Brothers singles. Enjoyable none the less.

Satyricon - The Age of Nero

Not a bad album, although Now Diabolical and Volcano are still way better. However, the song 'Black Crow on a Tombstone' has become my new favourite by the band.

sidewinder 06-24-2010 10:42 PM

Portugal. The Man - The Satanic Satanist

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

I've known about these guys since their debut album. But every time I listened to sound clips to gauge interest, it was never enough. I still don't get much enjoyment out of the sound clips for their debut. I've even heard a song or two and didn't really care for them. But a friend today mentioned he was interested in seeing them live tomorrow (he's a fan, seen them already) so I decided to sample some other albums and they seemed to appeal to me more. So I decided to get this and see if I'd be interested in going to the show.

Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

I think I've only heard one song from these guys, and it was from this album. I liked it, but wasn't really looking for music of the sort at the time. Now I'm on a quest for good summer music and maybe this will fit the bill? They seem to get a good amount of praise around MB.

sidewinder 06-24-2010 11:13 PM

Decided on a few other things as well:

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, Thats What I Am Not

What are you comparing this to? If you started with their recent albums and went backwards then this album probably does seem pretty raw...they progressively got more and more polished with each release. Transmissions From the Satellite Heart is even more crunchy than Clouds Taste Metallic. Go even further to In a Priest Driven Ambulance and it is allll about the guitars. What else have you heard?

I started with their newer stuff and i'm working my way back, although i skipped Zaireeka because i can't find it on cd anywhere. I was comparing it to the likes of The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots. The album has a nice production though, it almost feels live at times.

Anyhow my last grab was:

The only solo album from Nevermore's guitarist. If it's anything like Warrel Dane's solo outing then I expect nothing but musical ecstasy.
