Joanna Newsom- The Milk-Eyed Mender
I loved Newsom's voice in Ys right away, but Oh My Shiiva, this is going to be a challenge to get used to. She kind of sounds like Bjork but three octaves higher.

clutnuckle 06-08-2010 01:56 PM

Yeah, everything about Milk Eyed Mender is challenging to get used to after hearing Ys. That's kind of ironic, considering it's much more simplistic.

James 06-08-2010 02:00 PM

I prefer Milk Eyed Mender brilliant album.

The Antlers - In the Attic of the Universe

Hospice is a terrific album, dunno how In The Attic will measure up but we'll see.

gunnels 06-08-2010 04:27 PM

^In the Attic of the Universe is awesome. Very different from Hospice though, so don't expect another "Two".

There's no definitive song from Hospice, though from that I assume Two was a single and one of their most popular? It's a great album, flows really nicely. Why's In The Attic different? More folky and less dreamy?

gunnels 06-08-2010 04:35 PM

Basically, yeah. It's a more bare-boned affair.
A lot less depressing too. In fact it's kind of uplifting.

Nice contrast. Do they have a third album as well? Is that any good?

gunnels 06-08-2010 04:38 PM

They have a debut called Uprooted, but I haven't listened to it yet.

Yeah, I thought they had a third one. I'll have to get it, I really like Hospice a lot though, despite it making me lose the will to live.

gunnels 06-08-2010 04:47 PM

"Wake" gets me everytime.

The Gaslight Anthem - American Slang

How is that? I'm on the fence about getting it.

gunnels 06-09-2010 01:42 AM

^ on his way to 15 posts EDIT: He got Toreminated.
Anyway, I just nabbed these:
Neil Young- On the Beach
Natural Snow Buildings- The Dance of the Sun and the Moon
Autechre- Tri Repetae++
Boris- Pink
Swans- Love of Life
Swans- White Light from the Mouth of Infinity
Talk Talk- Spirit of Eden

Pretty productive night I think. :D

Violent & Funky 06-09-2010 03:56 AM

Ahhh FINALLY some new music!

Based on recommendations from my friends:

Dr. Dog - Shame, Shame

http://lookpic.com/i/229/fYDtNbKB.jpeg

The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America

http://morningaftershow.files.wordpr.../ths_bagia.jpg

Violent & Funky 06-09-2010 04:02 AM

And the music I have picked out:

The New Bomb Turks - Destroy, Oh Boy!

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nVrf9YP2-s...boy%5B1%5D.jpg

Some solid garage punk and they're from Ohio, which is a plus.

Wire - Pink Flag

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_cLI19EXK2o.../s400/wire.jpg

Supposedly an epic post-punk album that has the original version of 'Mr. Suit', which was covered on The New Bomb Turks album.

Germans - Cape Fear

http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/10117-cape-fear.jpg

This is the one I'm really excited about. I actually BOUGHT it, which doesn't happen very often. They take all the great 90s indie bands like Pavement, Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, etc.'s lo-fi sound and combine it with some great bass-vocal and keyboard to write perfectly beautiful, short and sweet indie rock songs...

Tokyo Police Club - Champ
Looking forward to this.

Wu-Tang Clan vs. The Beatles - Enter The Magical Mystery Chambers
It's popped up enough it was just convenient to grab it.

I think I was actually the one who recommended Sparklehorse to you when we were into it about Elliott Smith...nice to see you took my recommendation! I would definitely go for "It's a Wonderful Life" as well...beautiful album.

All the other albums are excellent as well...especially Devotion. Beach House has this quality that is so addicting yet I can't really put my finger on it. One of my favorite albums of 08...check out Teen Dream as well it has been one of the best releases this year and if you are seeing them live I bet they will be playing a ton off that album as well.

Eh I wasn't too crazy about the first album...but I think your right, it is worth a download.

And +81, that Tokyo Police album is really good, you won't be disappointed.

EDIT: I gave in and downloaded it along with The '59 Sound because I feel I didn't give it the proper chance.

beach house is really one of the concerts i'm looking forward to the most so i'll definitely look for the album! i've only listened to a few songs, but they've really caught my attention.

The Drums - The Drums
I'm listening to it for the second time right now and i'm quite enjoying it. The new songs sound just as good as the songs on their EP and they'll probably be just as addictive. They're not exactly original or anything but who cares when you can write great pop songs like these?

http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/2105-no-new-york.jpg

Various Artists - No New York
Decided to download this out of curiosity after reading about it. It's a compilation accounting the New York no-wave scene in the late 70's. I'll give it a listen later.

My Morning Jacket - At Dawn

I already really like Z, so it's time to see how At Dawn and It Still Moves measure up. I may also get Evil Urges.

Zer0 06-09-2010 05:52 PM

It Still Moves is my favourite My Morning Jacket album it's f*cking epic, it has a real sense of timelessness and melancholy which i love. 'One Big Holiday' and 'I Will Sing You Songs' are amazing. Z is an amazing album too.

It Still Moves looks like it's a long album (judging by each song length.) I find albums with longer lengths have to be quality or you'll just get bored by track 4. I really hope it's as good as Z. I'll be sure when listening to it I look out for them 2 songs.
