I'll take that as a compliment ;) I kind of like it, darker sounding album to their debut. But we'll see, I need to listen to it a bit more. The first 4 or 5 songs sound good. Why do you dislike it? It's generally considered better than their debut isn't it.. surprised you like the debut but not Wall of Arms.

I'm not sure, just wasn't feeling it at all. I think it's also because I happened to see them by chance at Glastonbury last year and I heard some of the songs performed live before I listened to the album, and Maccabees have never been GREAT live so maybe that tainted it a bit.

I've never heard them live, how come they're poor? Maybe, I remember watching Kasabian a couple of years ago. I didn't like them but I heard them support Oasis and it got me into them, just because they were strong live.. and they played some of their new stuff which sounded good, so I bought the album. If they performed it badly live I wouldn't have bothered with them. So being a good live band can definitely win or lose you fans.

It's been awhile since i bought any but these would be the most recent ones:

Danny Elfman - Alice In Wonderland OST
Ensiferum - From Afar [Digibook]
Finntroll - Nifelvind
Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
Simon & Garfunkel - Greatest Hits
Journey - Escape

All were fantastic. Since I have very limited funds I only buy music I know I will enjoy so I knew beforehand these would all be awesome.

Up until the time of this purchase I had only owned Appetite For Destruction on tape (which I bought at a gas station some 20 years ago). Figured it was about time to own it on CD, haha.

Got the Beaster EP the other day and was pretty much blown away when I played it today for the first time, so I thought I'd get this album.

Those were two of my favorite albums when I was in high school. Good picks! :)

My copy of 'In search of the lost Chord' by Moody Blues arrived today, which pleased me greatly. Along with 'Moseley Shoals' by OCS (replaced for about the 7th time) and 'Life's too good' by the Sugarcubes. Happy days for me today.

OctaneHugo 06-07-2010 07:48 AM

Downloaded a rash of albums last night..

A Silver Mt. Zion: He Has Left Us Alone but Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corners of Our Rooms, Kollaps Tradixionales
Don Caballero - What Burns Never Returns
Janelle Monáe - The ArchAndroid
John Coltrane - Ascension, Live at Birdland, A Love Supreme, My Favorite Things, Olé Coltrane
Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool, Sketches of Spain
Death From Above 1979 - Heads Up
Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Bright Moments
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Talking Heads - Remain in Light, The Name of this Band is Talking Heads
Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners
Toe - The Book About My Idle Plot On A Vague Anxiety, For Long Tomorrow
Wire - 154, Chairs Missing

Either stuff I should've already had, stuff I used to have or something new. Janelle Monáe I already knew about but this album was released this year, Talking Heads was redownload, Toe was on the recommendation of a friend, Don Caballero is a wildcard, etc.

Right now Death From Above 1979 is kicking my ass and I love it.

Got a pair of albums by O Pioneers!!!

A little more hardcore than I'm used to, but I still like it, the vocals aren't unbearable, and I do like the instrumentals.

Wow, interesting. Really powerful. Never heard of him before, but I googled him and found out that he worked with SPK and was generally involved in that early industrial scene with Throbbing Gristle, Coil, Nurse With Wound. As I am a fan of early industrial I really need to check him out. Thanks for the videos.

I've always hated O Pioneers! actual music, but I've met them a few times and they're pretty nice guys. If you want something a little more mathy, and a lot more enjoyable in my opinion, check out twain harte.

As for me, I've been completing my prefuse 73 collection:

Morcheeba - Blood Like Lemonade (2010)

I'm enjoying this so far, it's a lot more relaxed than some of their previous albums, however I still don't think it's as good as Cherango (2002)

http://www.merchantsofrock.com/wp-co...-sessions1.jpg

Deer Tick - The Black Dirt Sessions (2010)

Initial reports are telling me I'm not going to find much from this album, however I quite enjoy Deer Tick's blend of alt. country and indie rock so I feel obliged to give it a try at least.

as a big fan of early Morcheeba, i am disappointed by this one.

i'm not saying it's a bad album, i am enjoying it a lot. but it sounds like the last 2 solo albums the singer Skye has released. very acoustic and poppy.

when i heard she was back with Morcheeba i was expecting more downtempo electronic stuff. this could just as well be a new Skye solo...

duga 06-07-2010 12:17 PM

I've been recently trying to set a pattern for acquiring new music. I download a ton on Sunday with all week to listen to the new albums at work. This kind of forces me to absorb the music a bit more, which is something I have been missing ever since I went digital. CD's were a lot better for really appreciating an album.

Anyways, this week I will be trudging through these guys:

Blind Mr. Jones - Stereo Musicale
Lilys - Everything Wrong Is Imaginary
Stella Luna - Stargazer
Nightmares on Wax - In a Space Outta Sound
Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables (I'm slowly spreading my punk wings)
Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun (one of the most versatile noise rock groups out there)
The Fall - Fall Heads Roll (ever since joining MB and seeing certain members' obsession with this band I finally decided I needed to give them a spin...although I'm sure I will get **** for my album choice)
The Raveonettes - Lust Lust Lust
Gorgoroth - Incipit Satan (I have such a soft spot for black metal)

A nice little chunk of musical variety there if I do say so myself.

that is a great album. it definitely a lot noisier than pretty in black and in and out of control, but really really good.

^Their best, IMO. Still have to get around to listening to In and Out of Control though it's in my library.

Yep, I have Meditations upon Meditations but if there's another one he made then let me have it brother!

sidewinder 06-07-2010 04:26 PM

Nope, that's the one. Glad you've got it, it's quite good and a shame it was Japan-only. So it's therefore the only one I don't have on CD.

It's been forever since I listened to CAKE.

http://pointnone.files.wordpress.com..._bulletin1.jpg

They're playing at a festival in the summer and I want to see whether their music would be worth seeing live. I've already heard they put on great shows but I want a little extra incentive to check it out.

Nah, Bluesfest. Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest I really dislike the setlist this year. It's pretty sad that the band I'm most excited to see is Passion Pit...

Absolutely amazing album! The opening track 'Race For The Prize' is my favourite Flaming Lips tune. Make sure you pick up Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots as well.

I've been a big Arcade Fire fan, I've liked Funeral but never stretched beyond. Plus, I think they're playing at the same time as the Lips... or at least there are two bands I'm interested in seeing that are playing at the same time as the Lips.

It's a really great album, but the noise just gets overwhelming sometimes.. lust lust lust is amazing but i have to be in the right mood to appreciate the noisiest of the songs.

you should listen to in and out of control! if you really love lust you'll probably be disappointed because there is practically none compared to lust lust lust.
