More people need to listen to the Swirlies.

Awesome i'll get that next then, i'm gonna let this album sink in first though. From what i heard so far they're pretty damn good, they're certainly going to grow on me.

I have heard and love Pride and this one is definitely more country influenced then the last one, not as slow, more upbeat, and just as good. Don't come into it expecting his usual mellow stuff though.

Local Natives - Gorilla Manor

I had checked out samples of this a couple times before, never did enough for me to warrant a download or purchase. But I've always like the cover art. Anyway a coworker sent me a track yesterday ('Sun Hands') and I like it so I'm gonna check out the whole album.

Demon Days by Gorillaz

Wasn't too much of a fan at first but it's starting to grow on me.

Morcheeba - Blood Like Lemonade

Skye Edwards, the original singer for Morcheeba, is back!

it's very mellow, much more along the lines of Skye's recent solo stuff. a lot more acoustic than her earlier work with Morcheeba.

i dig it :D

Picked up a few interesting things as of late-

http://images.uulyrics.com/cover/d/d...nocent-age.jpg
Dan Fogelberg - The Innocent Age (1981)

I've always thought this guy, who normally gets lumped in with all the Adult-Contemporary late 80's crowd of sappy singer-songwriters, was fairly underrated - this album is an honest-to-God epic folk smorgasbord of West Coast late 60's nostalgia and post-psychedelia..sort of like the band America without all the shitty songwriting. Hell, this may be the best soft-rock album of all time, and I'm lovin' it quite a bit.

http://indictos.files.wordpress.com/...atulations.jpg
MGMT - Congratulations (2010)

Although I'm probably not alone in this, I'm hella glad this bunch have kicked the Indie-pop thing from their debut and shifted towards songwriting that's hazier, stranger, and generally a lot more interesting from start to finish. My inner proggie would like to point out that the 12 minute Siberian Breaks is fantastic also. ;)

Rage - Unity (2002)

Some good German power metal that sounds like a mixture between Blind Guardian and Nevermore.

I proudly fly my geek flag and listen to bands like Blind Guardian, Rage, Demons & Wizards, and Iced Earth. Sometimes its just nice to listen to metal musicians who aren't afraid to admit that metal is the geekiest genre of music to ever come into existence.

Good call on that Bloodbath album through, Resurrection Through Carnage and the follow up Nightmares Made Flesh are probably the best two albums by Bloodbath.

AleG 06-04-2010 01:23 PM

Unfortunately it's the only album, so far, that I have of them. They're still hellishly brilliant, so I'll make an attempt to get 'Nightmares Made Flesh'.

'So You Die'...what a song...

Just a hint of warning, Mikael Åkerfeldt doesn't do vocals on Nightmares Made Flesh, instead Peter Tägtgren provides them. Now it's a pretty even trade as both men are insanely talented, but just be prepared for a different sound in the vocal department.

RVCA 06-04-2010 01:29 PM

So then what do you think of Coheed? Or Dragonforce? They seem to be the more popular "geek metal" bands...

Can't stand either of them. Never could get into the vocals of Coheed and Cambria and Dragonforce is just a complete fucking joke, even by geek standards, still their album art can be pretty cool and they're competent musicians.

DragonForce tend to annoy me. They lack diversity - every song requires a damn 92 minute guitar solo...

Only listened to it twicebut the first half sounded really good, band tidy Indie pop album. You had it in your hands?! Not out til the 7th I didn't think. But yeah, worth a download, I have a link if you'd rather save money and give it a listen?

EDIT: They took it down. "The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable." :(

I'll probably get the cd the next time i'm in town. I've read a few lukewarm reviews about it and that kinda put me off a bit. Yeah the album was sitting there on the racks along with their EP. Albums that are usually supposed to be released on a monday here tend to appear on the friday before. It's better in a business sense i guess cos everyone will be in town at the weekends.

Film critics influenced my decisions but for music, I don't really care too much.. but meh, if you want a bit of Indie pop then it's definitely for you. But I wouldn't waste money buying it.. Make of that what you will. ;)

Really? I was really into The Idiot and Lust For Life. I didn't think New Values would measure up, I hope it does.

It's kind of like Iggy Pop does Post Punk & New Wave.

I can see why It's not as highly regarded as those two albums. I just find it more listenable.

I listened to the first 4 tracks and I could tell it was a very Post Punk album and it sounded okay, the other two just had something a bit more about them for me. I hope New Values is more of a grower
