Is it Dylan week on MB or what? :p:

downwardspiral 04-30-2010 11:46 AM

my friend Stu keeps going on and on at me to buy it. I seen it in Probe for £6 so I picked it up.

I'm yet to listen, but I kind of am indifferent in general to Dyaln's stuff. ****, I can totally see why people adore him, and he has done a LOT for music in terms of paving way for a lot of artists etc.

but yeah. I dunno. I'm half considering going to that Hop Farm festival he's playing at, as sometimes seeing acts live help me get my head around them more. we'll see.

Yes! Join in the fun

sidewinder 04-30-2010 12:06 PM

Yeah, no. I'm not ready for Dylan, it's not the right time. I like some of his songs alright but I respect him far more than I like him.

Plugging the holes? There's nothing to have holes in!

Quite right, let me rephrase that.

My 3rd Dylan album. I think I need to expand on these.

Bought:

CunninLynguists - Dirty Aces (2007)

It's actually my least favorite album by them but finding them is incredibly rare, especially for 10 bucks so I decided to pick it up anyway. Two down, two to go :D

http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/2979-...ction-hour.jpg

The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour (1982)

Fall albums are about as rare as a waitress with all her teeth in this town so I had to grab it.

Downloaded:

Jeru the Damaja - The Sun Rises in the East (1994)

I was listening to his sophomore album The Wrath of Math earlier today and decided that I needed to hear more of him and that his debut album was the best place to go.

Ufomammut—Idolum
Italian electro noise psychedelic doom, for lack of a better label. Very good stuff, I'm look forward to giving it some more listens.

http://www.imm3moria.org/v4/images/c...e%20clever.jpg

Ultraphallus—The Clever
Quirky stoner doom kind of stuff. Haven't listened to it all the way through yet but it seems pretty good so far.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_AfM0W4yRfa...t-explodes.jpg

Mammatus—The Coast Explodes
Haven't listened to this at all yet. Jammy stoner doom stuff or so I hear.

http://www.metalkingdom.net/album/img/d19/18568.jpg

Negative Reaction—Under the Ancient Penalty
Listened to this once so far and wasn't very impressed but you never know. Sludgy, doomy stuff with crappy vocals.

LoathsomePete 04-30-2010 08:03 PM

I take it you bought yourself an 8th today eh Janzoon?

^What a coincidence, I'm on my first listen-thru right now...

I also downloaded Moneen's "The Red Tree". I figure I better familiarize myself with them before I see them in June with Alexisonfire.

OctaneHugo 04-30-2010 09:55 PM

I love Saul Williams. He's ****ing great.

Alfred 04-30-2010 09:55 PM

Yeah, I'm really digging what I'm hearing.

The bottom two I've heard bits and pieces of before, the above ones I have no idea about besides one being a semi-famous country rock album and the other being some big beat album or other.

I love the single Galvanise, and I heard it over some random footie vid the other day which reminded me to get the album. I'm sure I've heard one or two other tunes off it, but I can't really remember what they were. Either way, looking forward to giving it a spin. They've also got a new album on the way fairly soon, so I may as well get in the swing of things.

I thought it was utter shite myself. I don't think I'll be listening to it again.

Cog - Sharing Space (2008)

I've seen these Australians mentioned a lot in same breath as Karnivool, so I went ahead and picked this lil' beauty up. In a word, it's quite phenomenoriginal.

Peter Gabriel - 4 [Security] (1982)

Underrated classic from an occasionally overrated musician that most people know about. Lots of prominent world music elements here, but without all the obnoxiousness that normally comes along with 'em. :)
