Yesterday, I got:

http://metalwarez.com/wordpress/wp-c...new-tracks.jpg
Demon Hunter's The World Is a Thorn.
Just came out this March.
So far so good. Needs a couple more listens before I can say for sure. According to the band, its their heaviest, yet most melodic album yet. Again, I need to give it a few more listens. Still working on it.

it definitely holds a place in my top 10.

I got this album a few weeks ago, along with some other DJ Shadow stuff. I liked it, but I must admit, I didn't try hard enough to really get into it. I owe it some more attention.

Well I finally got around to listening to the album and I have to say it's a very esoteric album. The psychedelic elements are sparse, but still present. Unless you're REALLY into black metal then I don't know if you'd enjoy it to the same degree.

Yeah I actually got that album a little while back on a black metal binge. I actually didn't even know it was considered psychedelic. So yes, be wary fellow BNers.. but I still enjoyed it.

Jeremydav 04-28-2010 04:37 PM

Highway 61 Revisited. Normally I just use itunes, but I really wanted this album in the plastic case and all. One of the few albums I own, it's also my favorite Dylan album-- perhaps my favorite album period.

jackhammer 04-28-2010 05:02 PM

A backing band for Lee Dorsey amongst others, this 70's Funk Rock band released a few seminal albums in the 70's and this is a corker. The 11 minute+ It Ain't No Use is right up there with Funkadelic for Funk Rock jams.

New Fall album. Not listened yet.
http://www.roughtrade.com/site/produ...es/324624L.jpg
New Noisia album. On it now. A hybrid of Drum N Bass, Electro and Prodigy-esque big beats.

Not heard this yet but the writes up suggest a very good Reggae album. EDIT. It's not Reggae but a sweet Soul album. NSW, Bulldog and Right-Track should check this out.

Gogol Bordello - Trans-Continental Hustle (2010)

New Gogol Bordello album that I downloaded before I left for school but for my Zune connector cable seems to not want to work so I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it.

Got this one too. Been interested in them for a while but never gave any of their albums a listen.

^ You will definitely find those interesting FaSho. 8)

As for me-

Dodgy - Homegrown (1994)

Very underrated Britpop/power-pop hybrid band I picked up based on an article I found. Thusfar, the fantastic vocal harmonies and guitar that infests this record has made great strides to putting me in a summertime mood. :)

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_y2txNHnxZG...ont_cover1.jpg
Zone - Angel of Freedom (1999)

One of the most eclectic, beautiful albums I've found in quite some time, jumping between Skinny Puppy-esque industrial workouts to Chinese folk to classical in the course of half an album. Why don't more people know about this I wonder?

jackhammer 04-28-2010 08:15 PM

Dodgy? Oh No! Good luck son! They have a very bad rep here! In fact they died soon after their debut 'Free Peace Sweet'.

scottsy 04-28-2010 08:46 PM

My last download... Last night by Moby.... I've always loved the artist, but kinda kept overlooking this album, so now, after a few years, I figure it was worth a look!

Are those the only ones you have heard, then? With Teeth is great, but I think the record everyone generally agrees you should start with is the Downward Spiral. Also, the Broken EP is pretty amazing.

scottsy 04-28-2010 09:07 PM

I was weird, I started with the Fragile... but as I said, i'm weird...hahahaha

The Fragile is good too, it is just a little too much to absorb on your first run with NIN.

scottsy 04-28-2010 09:27 PM

Yeah, it certainly was a big bite to start off with... for a while it did actually overwhelm me as a listener, but with time and familarity I definitely came to love it.

I thought of a similar comment, but really, it might not be so bad starting with these. In general, I tend to like what I hear first best. So he'll take a liking for these, and then be completely blown away when he checks out the earlier stuff. :) I would think, anyway.

You are probably right...I did love With Teeth, so I'm sure someone who had never heard them would love it as well. It amazes me how Trent has really upped his speed in writing music. He used to pull Tool and only release albums every 5 or more years. Now I can hardly keep up.

sidewinder 04-28-2010 10:35 PM

Yeah but I do think the quality has gone down. I like With Teeth and Year Zero, even Ghosts and The Slip. They just all have some weak tracks and don't compare to The Downward Spiral, Broken, and Pretty Hate Machine for me. Fragile's kind of a weird one that has grown on me over the years but I don't know where to place as far as ranking. It's too long for me to really love it, but it's otherwise good stuff. I also tend to rag on his later material (after Fragile) for his vocal style changing but really it's not all that different from Pretty Hate Machine. I think I tend to think that way because Broken is my favorite and that one is really aggressive in his vocal delivery. And it's been ages since I've listened to PHM so I tend to forget the way he sang there.

duga 04-28-2010 10:39 PM

^

I actually feel exactly the same way as you. Even about the Fragile...I feel like I should like it and I always remember liking it to an extent...but I can never quite verbalize exactly how I feel about it.

But Ghosts kicked ass to me. I love ambient stuff to begin with, and I was really unsure if he could pull it off, but he nailed it. It pretty much solidified my opinion of Trent as an incredibly talented musician. Now that I think about it, maybe I shouldn't have been worried since I played Quake back in the day and the music in that was creepy as ****.

sidewinder 04-28-2010 10:46 PM

I still haven't listened to the Quake soundtrack he did. I heard it's killer. I agree that Ghosts is really good, and I really should play it more. There are some really good moments it's just too bad that they're not more developed. I think that is just about everyone's complaint about it.
