The Jayhawks are a band from Minneapolis that was huge in the Alt-Country field until one of the key members left and then they kind of drifted away from the country feel.

The first two are from Hollywood Town Hall, the next two are from Tomorrow The Green Grass.

Jayhawks ~ Waiting For The Sun

The Jayhawks ~ Settled Down Like Rain

The Jayhawks ~ I'd Run Away

The Jayhawks ~ Blue

I just can't get into Wilco... i have absolutely no idea why, but I just can't... they always struck me as a bit bland, but that's just me, I don't have a huge place in my heart for alt - country either...

Alfred 04-25-2010 11:08 AM

I'll agree with you but maybe I need to give them more listens. I dunno.

I think they're brilliant, I'm not really into alt country either but I liked the alt country feel to their first album. Have you given them a good try? If so, maybe it's just one of them things.

3 excellent records.

downwardspiral 04-26-2010 10:32 AM

Yeah man. I'm a big Sonic Youth fan, have just been buying all of their albums gradually so I seen The Eternal in Probe and picked it up, I'm yet to listen to it though! Always loved Grizzly Bear and I spilt beer on my copy so had to buy a new one, and have basically just been wanting to see what this hype over Phoenix was about. They're playing a couple of festivals I'm at this year so will probably get the chance to see them at some point.

Husky McDump 04-26-2010 11:13 AM

going in order of preference of the 3 most recent:
Caribou - Swim

Various Artists (Mixed by Jaytech and James Grant) - Anjunadeep 02

Minus the Bear -OMNI
http://www.bighassle.com/minusthebea...ver_select.jpg

all very gooooD.

downwardspiral 04-26-2010 11:35 AM

OMNI! I most definitely need to purchase that.

sidewinder 04-26-2010 11:41 AM

That's gonna be a download-first for me. Their last was technically good but boring compared to the band's beginnings.

downwardspiral 04-26-2010 11:42 AM

I might do the same. Although I can't say I dislike anything they've produced, so I might go out and just buy it. I've heard from a few people that it's awesome, but I'm just gonna see how healthy or unhealthy my bank balance is.

Husky McDump 04-26-2010 11:46 AM

OMNI is much better than planet of ice. POI was their only album that I haven't been all that impressed with.

Punk Goes Classic Rock.
I really enjoyed this album and would give it a 9.5/10
My main problem with it was that no one really changed anything, would've been nice to see something different. Great covers though.

Bought two today, which is rare.

Simply because I never thought I would find it down here, despite its ginormous price tag

http://itsnaturaltobeafraid.files.wo...dtroducing.jpg
Simply because it was so cheap (I don't even love the album)

noise 04-27-2010 08:05 AM

how can you not love Endtroducing...?
it's one of the best albums ever created.
it definitely holds a place in my top 10.

Eh, just never found it that amazing tbh. I can understand its significance, hardly means I have to love the music though

LauraBT40 04-27-2010 10:14 AM

There's some eclectic tastes in this thread! I recently downloaded the Noisia album (Split the Atom) as well as Plan B's second album (The Defamation of Strickland Banks)! I quite like dance music and underground stuff too, but I also like chart music and I think there's a lot of good stuff out at the moment.

Has anyone else bought either of these albums?

I had the misfortunate of hearing that, thought it was absolutely awful.
Yesterday I got Eels first and most recent album:
Eels: Beautiful Freak
Eels: End Times

I agree completely regarding Endtroducing. It's certainly not bad but it's not my favorite of the style.

I have been thinking of getting Noisia's album. Haven't heard of the other.

Gogol Bordello - Trans-Continental Hustle (2010)

New Gogol Bordello album that I downloaded before I left for school but for my Zune connector cable seems to not want to work so I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it.

The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt (2010)

I loved his 2008 release Shallow Graves so I'm hoping this album continues his winning streak.

This is shaping up to be a good page. A lot of good folk/folk-punk and the Tobacco album I've been eager to hear.

i definately reccomend this to anyone who wants a well produced and intriguing hip hop record. Aceyalone really knows how to tell a story and weave some great lyrics, and the beats by RJD2 are eclectic and fun as hell.

speaking of RJD2

I have the instrumental to that which is not bad, and I think I've heard the regular album. But what I came here to say is that his album A Book of Human Language is my favorite of the three I've heard, and the instrumental A Book of Human Beats by Mumbles is really great too (I actually heard that before Aceyalone's album, so that's what introduced me to him).
