And some lo-fi/noise rock to kill some time with.

I have that album. It's good enough but a lot of the songs really sound the same and blend into each other. Their raw passion makes up for it though.

Haven't really had the time to listen to it properly yet. I like the little I've heard of them before.

I wasn't exactly blown away by what I've heard of them already myself, but they sound good enough to me. I'm just looking for a little bit of a change of direction as far as the usual listening habits go, so I'm looking forward to sitting down and having a good listen so them soon.

Are you catching them live at any point NSW? I think they're touring Europe and the US later in the year but I could be wrong...

NSW 04-15-2010 06:09 PM

The only US cities they are playing that I know of are in California. :( If I had the money to burn I would fly there in a heartbeat to see them live though.

Aw :( That sucks, I know you'd love one of their shows! Let's hope they come around your way sometime in the future!

It's definitely a challenge to find lo-fi garage rock bands that stick out these days.

Actually, I got two CD's. "A Hard Day's Night"(The Beatles), and "Be Here Now"(Oasis). I love them both and am playing to the first album above listed.

It's very good! And hip hop's not exactly my thing (especially a mainstream-ish guy like him). But he's different. I've got a good feeling about stuff to come (as long as he doesn't sell out).

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised! I wasn't sure if I'd like it (like I said, I'm not all that into hip hop, but this album rocks!). Now I'm kinda delving into alt hip hop a bit.

Should I be excited? Seems like this is a band I overlooked considering their overlap of my tastes...

You should be excited.

Really excited to give this a listen through the entire way, the few tracks I've sampled so far have been brilliant. I'm not usually a fan of live albums but I'm hoping this one will be different.

A very nicely produced, written and thoroughly enjoyable album, IMO

Just been out doing a spot of CD shopping, not too many disc brought home, but these are the two i found piqued my interest...

Death Cab for Cutie - The Open Door EP
Poecupine Tree - The Incident

Very excited about giving both of these a good headphone listen very very soon!

Ha :thumb: You can share your opinion about it in Porcupine Tree thread :D Thanks.
Do you know some other albums by them or this is your first try?

scottsy 04-17-2010 03:01 PM

I have had a friend play their stuff for me and i liked it much, but was always so busy trying to find my favorite artists stuff and keep up with that.... now thati have cleared the decks i figured it was time to try something new... I would have bought some of their older studio albums too, but alas, the store had none... Happy to take uploads though! :)

gunnels 04-17-2010 05:11 PM

Bought on CD:
Silversun Pickups- Swoon
Genghis Tron- Board up the House
Jónsi- Go
Tech N9ne- Killer
Super Furry Animals- Radiator

Record Store Day was a smashing success! It may have packed like a can of sardines in there, but it was well worth it.
The live music was great too.

James 04-17-2010 05:15 PM

^Radiator, nice you're in for a treat

I'm fortunate enough to be in San Francisco right now so I went to Amoeba earlier today and the place was just bustling. Surprisingly though the lines went really quickly and the staff was super helpful with finding stuff. I was a little disappointed in the metal section though, not nearly as much stuff as I thought there would be, but their hip-hop section more than made up for it. Here's what I got:

Sweatshop Union - Water Street (2008)
Delerium - Karma (1997)
Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow (2002)
Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness (2001)
CunninLynguists - A Piece of Strange (2006)
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless (1991)
The Fall - This Nation's Saving Grace (1986)

I also had a few in the hand but I ended up putting them back just because I didn't want to spend too much money. Those 7 CD's were $61 so I didn't do very bad. I immediately snatched up A Piece of Strange though because of how rare it is to find that album in CD format, most places online are trying to sell it for over $100 so to get it for $14.99 was awesome. All in all I'm very happy with my turn out this year, I think next year I'll have to return and go at it again.

Dude I went there last time I was in San Francisco ... quite the excellent store, and reasonable prices as you said. Another reason why San Francisco is amazing.

Anyways, my most recent purchases/download:
