I'm still undecided if I should grab this album or not. I like the concept of a punk band doing a Civil War themed album but I'm concerned about the execution. |

Devin Townsend - Ki Well, the last two I have had as Mp3s for some time, but i felt it was time to give the most awesome artist his dues for his great work! plus i can now listen in much better quality, which is always good. |

the best music torrent site on the net is having freeleech on flac all through the weekend, so i'm taking advantage of this opportunity to 'upgrade' my collection. it's gonna be hell to tag it all though... |

Arrived in the mail last Thursday. A compilation of this black metal supergroup’s one EP and one full length re-released on one disc. Looking at the lyrics and track listing you’d think this would be pretty bad, there’s songs called “Satan”, “Ave Satan”, “Soldiers of Satan”, even one titled “I Am Elite” :p: but in the end this is fairly well executed primitive black/war metal. Nothing mindblowing or creative in any sense mind you, but it does a pretty good job at what it sets out to do I suppose. |

I was lucky to found a classic proto-house 12" in a 1£ crate: Colonel Abrams - Trapped. Not an album but a record never the less.

http://www.acroplane.co.uk/sites/def...-3.5.6.350.gif Just released today (free), some dubstep-tinged acid tracks. Quite fun and different, and I'm just on the first song. |

once this is over, i'll have 80% of my collection upgraded to flac. the rest, well, i'll have to live with mp3 until someone releases a better rip :) i know flac is extreme overkill, but i have blazing fast internet and lots of drive space, so i figure - why not? |
Roel Funcken - Vade
New solo album from one half of the Dutch sibling electronic duo Funckarma. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg Dimlite - Prismic Tops New EP from Swiss electronic/glitch hop artist. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg Public Image Ltd. - This Is What You Want...This Is What You Get My first P.I.L. album. I heard the song 'This is Not a Love Song' on the radio this weekend and it was just what I needed to dive in. I'd already been scoping out other albums. http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image....L._AA300_.jpg |

Jeff Buckley - Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk Being a big fan of Grace, strange I've never really bothered with this. Decided to download it. I'm yet to listen, let's hope it was worth the effort of clicking a few buttons. :D |

Fun Lovin' Criminals - Loco http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000056O9E.jpg The title track's a great tune in a sleazy, over-familiar way. I don't really expect much from the rest of the album, but it should be vaguely interesting at least. The Presets - Apocalypso http://oblogdojamiro.files.wordpress...apocalypso.jpg And some slightly more modern stuff. No idea what it'll sound like though (it was one of those find downloading at random from time to time). |

Cocteau Twins - Treasure Been meaning to get this for ages. A really cool dreamy album. http://i50.tinypic.com/1ypcnb.jpg Alcest - Écailles De Lune What an awesome album. There's a more black metal influence on it than 'Souvenirs...'. One of the best albums of 2010 so far. http://www.the-fly.co.uk/upload/imag...es_300x300.jpg Blood Red Shoes - Box Of Secrets Some great hook-laden alternative rock. Nice. |
^^Great call on the Cocteau Twins :thumb:
Probably my favourite album of theirs along with Heaven Or Las Vegas. Absolutely gorgeous music to unwind and relax to… I really need to get around to checking out that Alcest album as well… VOND - Green Eyed Demon http://www.metalkingdom.net/album/img/d34/9433.jpg Picked it up from clearance at the record shop downtown. I've heard some pretty bad things about this one but seeing as how I'm a big fan of early Mortiis as well as Vond's "Selvmord" thought it was worth a $1 gamble... I'm going for a walk and will give it a listen in a few minutes here.. |
Nat King Cole - The World Of Nat King Cole
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_kjemZvp7QQ...l_cd-front.jpg Ella Fitzgerald - Lullabies Of Birdland http://i37.tinypic.com/i1edrb.jpg ^ As per getting into some 50s vocal jazz and swing lately. The Best Of the Gerry Mulligan Quartet With Chet Baker http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000005HGI.jpg ^ I couldn't find White Blues or My Funny Valentine anywhere, so this'll have to do. The Rolling Stones - Some Girls http://dkpresents.files.wordpress.co...me-girls-x.jpg ^ Could've sworn I had this album before. Apparently not, so here it is. |

Ive never known what to make of Blood Red Shoes though. I suppose it serves a purpose if you just want hooks and fairly generic background music. Some of those tracks would work well in an indie/rock club too I guess. |
Definitely worth the clicking of a few buttons, it could've been a special album if mixed and produced properly etc.
Shame it was only Sketches instead of the real thing. Because it's not the finished thing, it could be looked at as yeah well it's not Grace. But some people don't fully appreciate Jeff as a song writer, putting the melodies together. Some people just see him as the voice. Some of the song structures on SFMSTD are second to none. If his death didn't happen, I believe he would've made that album as special as Grace. |

I went to the shop yesterday, so I bought some hard copies:
Jadal - Arabic Rocks (2009) http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/252/34960577.jpg ^It's the debut album by a Jordanian band called Jadal. I remember loving some I tracks, after listening to them briefly in my friend's car. If I found the complete album to my liking, and of a high quality, I shall review them in the Arabic Music thread. Miles Davis - doo bop (1992) http://images.uulyrics.com/cover/m/m...um-doo-bop.jpg ^It's the guy's final studio album. Nothing much to add, about Davis here. Funkadelic - Toys (2008) http://www.thefunkstore.com/RawFunkC...icToys2008.jpg ^That's the only one I was able to find by them, and sadly that's the first album I pick up by them. Kate Bush - The Kick Inside (1978) http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_aPr9jZrmu9...ick+Inside.jpg ^Her debut, the ultimate place to begin... A beginning that is long overdue. |
i grabbed that Alcest album a few weeks ago but still haven't gotten around to listening to it
haven't heard any of their other stuff either so i should probably check it out |
The rest of the list ... A couple of guilty pleasures.
Serj Tankian - Elect the dead (2007) http://musicdown.org/uploads/posts/2...0l._ss400_.jpg ^The famous debut of Serj Tankian. Etienne Daho - Daho pleyel Paris (2008) http://www.tetu.com/files/inline_ima...que-Pleyel.jpg ^I love Etienne Daho, and all I know about this live concert, is that it includes the track "Comme un Boomerang", a tune that I got addicted to 2 years ago. It's originally composed by Serge Gainsbourg, but the first time I heard it (and kept hearing it), it was sang by Etienne Daho. Enjoy V *Plus it says on the back, there's a duo with Charlotte Gainsbourg, and another one with Jane Birkin (Yeay!) |
Unbelievably enough, I found myself downloading the most recent owl City album... my wife wanted it, and somehow in the process I wound up liking it... I know, I'm not usually taken by such pop music offerings... but this ones kinda catchy in a Postal Service knock off kinda way...
