I'm still undecided if I should grab this album or not. I like the concept of a punk band doing a Civil War themed album but I'm concerned about the execution.

I loved their debut, not really been able to get into this one as much. Still hoping that in time I'll like it a lot more.

scottsy 04-04-2010 09:35 PM

My most recent additions.... had quite the influx of orders / purchases come rolling into my hot little hands in recent weeks, so here's my little summary!

Regurgitator - love and Paranoia
The Fauves - When Good Things Go Good
7 Worlds Collide - the Sun Came Out
R.E.M - Live at the Olympia
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Devin Townsend - Addicted!
Devin Townsend - Ki

Well, the last two I have had as Mp3s for some time, but i felt it was time to give the most awesome artist his dues for his great work! plus i can now listen in much better quality, which is always good.

it's gonna be hell to tag it all though...

Arrived in the mail last Thursday. A compilation of this black metal supergroup’s one EP and one full length re-released on one disc.
Looking at the lyrics and track listing you’d think this would be pretty bad, there’s songs called “Satan”, “Ave Satan”, “Soldiers of Satan”, even one titled “I Am Elite” :p: but in the end this is fairly well executed primitive black/war metal. Nothing mindblowing or creative in any sense mind you, but it does a pretty good job at what it sets out to do I suppose.

Nice. I snatched just over 1000 albums myself...needless to say my listening needs are met for quite a long time. I thought about making a list and posting but that will take forever.

I'd say go for it. It's definitely a great idea, and I think you'd be pleasantly surprised by the way it's done. Still, it's not as good as their first album.

i just crested the 1000 mark too. they extended freeleech for one more day, so i'll queue up another hundred or so albums before i head off to work.

once this is over, i'll have 80% of my collection upgraded to flac. the rest, well, i'll have to live with mp3 until someone releases a better rip :)

i know flac is extreme overkill, but i have blazing fast internet and lots of drive space, so i figure - why not?

Good album that, and definitely better than I first gave it credit for myself. Still not exactly one of my favourite PIL albums, but good enough for me. Bad Life, 1981 and the Order Of Death are my personal favourites off it.

Fun Lovin' Criminals - Loco
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000056O9E.jpg

The title track's a great tune in a sleazy, over-familiar way. I don't really expect much from the rest of the album, but it should be vaguely interesting at least.

The Presets - Apocalypso
http://oblogdojamiro.files.wordpress...apocalypso.jpg

And some slightly more modern stuff. No idea what it'll sound like though (it was one of those find downloading at random from time to time).

Probably my favourite album of theirs along with Heaven Or Las Vegas. Absolutely gorgeous music to unwind and relax to…
I really need to get around to checking out that Alcest album as well…

VOND - Green Eyed Demon

http://www.metalkingdom.net/album/img/d34/9433.jpg

Picked it up from clearance at the record shop downtown.
I've heard some pretty bad things about this one but seeing as how I'm a big fan of early Mortiis as well as Vond's "Selvmord" thought it was worth a $1 gamble...
I'm going for a walk and will give it a listen in a few minutes here..

I think its definitely worth it. There are some tracks on it that can be quite hard to listen to as they are in demo form and so clearly unfinished. That has more to do with thinking what those songs could have been though rather than being poor as they are.

Good call on Alcest. Im currently loving that one. Its heavier than Souvenirs for sure which i was hoping would work, as i think Souvenirs is gorgeous and the vocals have alot to do with that. It works well though i think.

Ive never known what to make of Blood Red Shoes though. I suppose it serves a purpose if you just want hooks and fairly generic background music. Some of those tracks would work well in an indie/rock club too I guess.

TheCunningStunt 04-07-2010 07:15 AM

Definitely worth the clicking of a few buttons, it could've been a special album if mixed and produced properly etc.

Shame it was only Sketches instead of the real thing. Because it's not the finished thing, it could be looked at as yeah well it's not Grace. But some people don't fully appreciate Jeff as a song writer, putting the melodies together. Some people just see him as the voice. Some of the song structures on SFMSTD are second to none. If his death didn't happen, I believe he would've made that album as special as Grace.

I went to the shop yesterday, so I bought some hard copies:

^It's the debut album by a Jordanian band called Jadal. I remember loving some I tracks, after listening to them briefly in my friend's car. If I found the complete album to my liking, and of a high quality, I shall review them in the Arabic Music thread.

^It's the guy's final studio album. Nothing much to add, about Davis here.

^That's the only one I was able to find by them, and sadly that's the first album I pick up by them.

^Her debut, the ultimate place to begin... A beginning that is long overdue.

OctaneHugo 04-07-2010 08:42 AM

i grabbed that Alcest album a few weeks ago but still haven't gotten around to listening to it
haven't heard any of their other stuff either so i should probably check it out

NumberNineDream 04-07-2010 08:42 AM

The rest of the list ... A couple of guilty pleasures.

Serj Tankian - Elect the dead (2007)
http://musicdown.org/uploads/posts/2...0l._ss400_.jpg

^The famous debut of Serj Tankian.

Etienne Daho - Daho pleyel Paris (2008)
http://www.tetu.com/files/inline_ima...que-Pleyel.jpg

^I love Etienne Daho, and all I know about this live concert, is that it includes the track "Comme un Boomerang", a tune that I got addicted to 2 years ago. It's originally composed by Serge Gainsbourg, but the first time I heard it (and kept hearing it), it was sang by Etienne Daho. Enjoy V

*Plus it says on the back, there's a duo with Charlotte Gainsbourg, and another one with Jane Birkin (Yeay!)

I don't understand the Owl City hate I guess...his recent album did have some comically bad moments (Dental Care is beyond cringe-worthy), but his first EP and LP were generally solid. Yes, it's somewhat of a Postal Service knockoff, but let's be real here: Postal Service released one album. Sometimes the lyrics do get a bit cheesy, but when I see him compared with Brokencyde or other **** I just don't buy it.
