On a whim...we'll see how it is, I've been pretty interested in their style of music lately, see if they are as good as some of the other stuff I found.

Not their best, heavenly bodies is miles better.

Nine Black Poppies 04-01-2010 06:35 PM

A bunch of things over the past week, including but not limited to:

Erykah Badu - New Amerykah, Part II: Return of the Ankh
Serena Maneesh - No 2: Abyss in B Minor
Miss Li - God Put a Rainbow in the Sky
Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)
Velvet Goldmine OST
Hockey - Mind Chaos
Royal Trux - Veterans of Disorder
Radar Bros - The Surrounding Mountains

Dark Tranquility - We Are the Void (2010)

Probably the most consistent melodic death metal band is back and this album is a welcome change to the crap In Flames has been putting out lately.

http://mediaboom.org/uploads/posts/2...rsal_cover.jpg

Borknager - Universal (2010)

Another amazing album from the Norwegian progressive black metal outfit. This album is nearly on par with Enslaved's album Below the Lights (2003)

You should get Colin Newman's solo albums next. If you don't already have them.

Imogen Heap - Ellipse

http://image3.examiner.com/images/bl...-album-art.jpg

I've been watching her vlogs over on youtube about making this album, so I thought I'd take the plunge and get it myself. Should be interesting at least.

Slik D - Midnight Vibes (2010)

Top class, starry eyed hip-hop for the nightly minded; these beats are so chill they could freeze lava.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_b3bCjnVnXo...400/folder.jpg
Sadist - Tribe (1996)

Death metal and world music's favorite lovechild. The floating, almost mystical keyboard work here contrasts wonderfully with the skull cracking riffs/drums/bass that keep this record grounded in lovable violence. Quite a trip so far!

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_499wVdW8GZ...Bfront%5D.jpeg
The Psychedelic Furs - Forever Now (1982)

Post-punk with a pop sensibility...or perhaps just a bunch of New Wave grooves that fumble amidst Gothic synthesizing and the occasional howling of an alto sax. Recommendable to the nth degree in either case!

Alias - The Other Side of the Looking Glass (2004)

Some really good hip hop from the Anticon label.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_coFoAhVunL...0/loveless.jpg

Japancakes - Loveless (2007)

A tribute to My Blood Valentine's 1991 hit album Loveless with the vocals replaced by a steel guitar and the distortion replaced with clean tones. Could be horrid, could be awesome.

http://en.academic.ru/pictures/enwik...s_swansong.jpg

Carcass - Swansong (1996)

I've had this on my hard drive for yonks but I found a used copy for 10 bucks so I figured why not.

http://radioloveless.files.wordpress...oneys_dead.jpg

Jesus and the Mary Chain - Honey's Dead (1992)

Same with Swansong, been on my hard drive for a while and I found a used copy within my price range.

It's weird, I liked that album the first couple times I listened to it but found I completely lost interest in it very quickly.

I'll be curious to hear if you have a similar experience with it. Though I'm probably affecting the outcome of this little experiment by even talking about it. :)

The last Album I got was Ke$ha. Not a fan of her lyrics but the beat of her music. Its the kind of music that makes you want to get up and dance.

Side note: I dont know why, but I love jazz album covers.

Well there are a lot of great ones out there, most of them designed by Reid Miles.

Aesop Rock - Daylight EP
I thought I'd had just about everything that I wanted or needed from the man, but after going through his discography I realized there were a few little stragglers, like this EP. It's been ages since I've heard it, but I haven't had to chance to really sit down and give it a good listen this time around. I do know that there's an interesting alternate version of the song Daylight on here called Nightlight, which is basically the classic
song with a different beat and modified lyrics.
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qqvbTlPznJ...+-+blogger.jpg

Grant Green -Live at the Lighthouse
Grant Green was one of the eminent guitarist in the realm of 60's and 70's acid jazz, and this live album, as a whole, is far from amazing, but I had to have it for the live versions of Windjammer and Jan Jan. Both songs clocking in at over 12 minutes, are groovy as hell, and definitely worth acquiring the whole album.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_GFrKh-YS0K...ighthouse1.jpg

Edit: Bulldog, big thumbs up on the Billie, Miles, and Satie. Does the Satie album include all or any of his Gymnopedies?

Yeah, I just loves flipping through my jazz albums and looking at the covers, just a musician, his instrument of choice and coloured hue on the photo.

I think so. I know Lent et Delouroux, Lent et Triste and Lent et Grave are al on there at least. Haven't listened to them yet, but all I've heard (and loved) before is Nocturne no:1. I need some more classical piano stuff besides Rachmaninov as well, so the comp should go down a treat.

epic stuff from some obscure orchestra in eastern europe. blends classical, jazz, folk, and even funk elements to make one beauteous album.

Cibo Matto - Viva La Woman

So the title of this album is corny...but this is highly addictive and really quirky electro-pop. Plus the singers are so damn cute. Sean Lennon contributes to the band and one of the singers did a lot for the Gorillaz debut.

This song is called Sugar Water:

Kind of mediocre with the exception of Take Pills to be honest. I love that song though.

Alfred 04-03-2010 10:17 PM

I enjoyed it though it didn't do a whole lot for me, but I can definitely see its appeal.
