There's a newer set of artists who have come out of the synthwave world incorporating more contemporary pop / rap / R&B influences into the usual stuff. They're the ones that the Lordes of the world are studying and attempting to currently rip off (the big ones being Trevor Something, The Midnight, GUNSHIP, Nina and a couple of others). I've seen it called "popwave", "dreamwave", etc. in some circles.

My bad. I know you probably look for artists to listen to while reading Terry Goodkind.

Projection isn't healthy. You coulda at least picked Poul Anderson or somebody fun. What would Ke$hup do?

I know the Midnight only too well and they're the kind of synthwave I find so boring. The way I remember them, their songs just didn't strike me as exactly being very inspired. I found them very, very predictable and uninspired in their melodies and sound choices. At least the stuff that I heard from them.

Don't know the other ones you mentioned (at least I don't remember their names If I've heard anything from them).

The Midnight have a few bangers like Jason, Kick Drums & Red Wine, etc. They have a particular approach and stick to it like glue. Most of the others I mentioned are branching out more, especially Trevor who is pretty out there at times. Soulless Computer Boy and The Eternal Render is a modern classic.

You should give Goodkind a try just for the lulz. Two thirds through the first Sword of Truth book the hero is nearly defeated by an explicit dominatrix who literally fucks away his free will. And then the second books rears its head with an evil chicken.

Wayne Shorter, Native Dancer

Just some warm smooth jazz for a cold Minnesota day.

That's a good one. I'm having fun with something from a few years later.

Nice. I'll have to listen to that next.

Were you the one who posted about Lonnie Liston Smith the other day? I'm checking out Astral Traveling right now and loving it so much.
