Madlib Medicine Show #3: Beat Konducta in Africa

I just bought Songs for the Deaf by Queens of the Stone Age. I've listened to my pirated version (oops! is that allowed here?) of the album to death, and on a whim decided that I should show my support for the awesome band.

Can't seem to stop playing God is in the Radio.

I can tell the difference on my high end headphones between lossy and lossless formats.... is it big enough of a difference to bother me. Not really. There's not enough compromise in the sound quality that i don't miss the overall qualities of the music, the bass is nice and deep, the treble tones are nice and sharp, and the mid range is fine. Hey it's all still way better than grandpa's gramophone...

Do you like it? If so what do you like about it?

Nice!! :)
I’m not much of a fan of a lot of the tech. deathgrind type stuff they helped open the floodgates for but this is a real gem. Their Effigy of the Forgotten album is pretty flawless as well.

Just picked up:

Been on a serious Wire kick recently and they are fast approaching my favourite bands list. Every release is that little bit different. Never a band to rest on their laurels and fans of all manner of guitar music can find something by them that they would like. Incredibly underrated band.

I love both albums, I like the debut more though. I think I mostly like it for it's simplicity and it's lyrics, so natural, at times dark at times gentler, his voice takes a lot of getting used to but I enjoy it.

I just downloaded this:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3vOU94yccT...p%27n+jazz.jpg

because lately I've been really interested in hardcore/emo, I like this album because it's more upbeat, but still delightfully noisy.

Excellent call. Every time I go to a record store I check for any Beat Konducta releases I don't have. I don't think it's possible to go wrong with any of them, Madlib is a ****ing genius.

And you can never go wrong with Cap'n Jazz :)

You prefer their debut, do you think The Midnight Organ Flight is their debut? That's their second album just incase you didn't know. But yeah I agree with the lyrics, the lyrics in The Midnight Organ Flight are just so simple yet they mean so much.

Hmm, I'll no doubt give it another listen. His voice is definitely distinctive and different. :D

Oh, I was talking about The Tallest Man on Earth...yeah in terms of Frightened Rabbit, I love Midnight Organ Flight, and yes I do know it was their second album, it was just the first one I heard. In terms of the new one vs. the second album, they are both fantastic and I can't decide which one I like better.

MusicPhantom's review in his journal (and the kindly-provided link) turned me on to this one. Sounds like it'll be pretty cool.

Arovane - Tides

Some fairly lively-sounding IDM judging by the one track I've heard beforehand. Another one that seems like it'll be pretty cool.

LateNightTales - The Cinematic Orchestra

This album inspired me to download the whole series to date. So needless to say that's all I'll be listening to for the next couple of weeks. If anybodies interested in checking out one of the albums Cover Versions is being offered free on their website: Cover Versions - FREE CD OFFER . Homepage . LateNight Tales

Quote:

The Late Night Tales series was established way back in 2000 with Fila Brazilia taking to the controls and mixing up the first of what would continue to be the choice of music connoisseurs worldwide.

The idea was to let the world’s best artists delve deep into their collections to create the ultimate late night collection.
Since its conception, we’ve seen the likes of Groove Armada, The Flaming Lips, Four Tet, Belle & Sebastian, Air and many more step up to produce their own individual take on the concept.
The series continues to dazzle with recent albums from Nouvelle Vague, Lindstrom and Fatboy Slim all exploring vastly different styles but all delivering a perfect musical package.

Not only is it a collection of the artist’s favourite tracks and inspirations, there’s also a special, and exclusive might we add, cover version included. This is the chance for our compilers to tackle a hidden gem or pay tribute to an idol by creating something totally new and exciting. (These are all of course released on a limited vinyl single!)

And as if all this wasn’t enough, each mix is put to sleep with a special Late Night spoken word story, taking in the likes of David Shrigley, Bootsy Collins, Brian Blessed and more recently Will Self.

So there we have it, look back, look forward, relax and enjoy…

From the recent record store trip:

Lightning Bolt - Ride The Skies
I've had this for so long, it's about time I went out and bought it. Still haven't decided which I like more out of this and Hypermagic Mountain. Definitely my favourite LB album artwork.

Boris and Sunn O))) - Altar
Some collaborative drone.

http://www.shellshock.co.uk/images/sleeves/GR967.jpg
AIDS Wolf - Dustin' Off The Sphinx
Some noise rock. I have The Lovvers LP which I quite like so I thought I'd give this a go.

Yeah, Pete Murphy and Mick Karn. I can send the link I found along if you like but, word of warning, judging by the filesize the sound quality's not that great.

I've had a downloaded copy of this album for some time now and i love it to pieces already... hence, i decided it waqs time the artist got his dues for it, and in return, i guess i get some really nice artwork and the same music at a better bitrate...
