I just bought the new Black Rebel Motorcycle Club album. For me, their songs are pretty hit or miss but I really liked this one. My favorite is 'Sweet Feeling'.

I decided to listen to this on Lala just now, and as is with most of Madlib's work.. definite winner. Thanks.

This was in the 99 cents bin at Hastings last night:

dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip-Fantastic British hip-hop with witty but pointed lyrics. Somebody on this board sent this to me, I forget who. Have it in CD form now though.

This one was in the $3.99 section, couldn't pass it up either.

Hum-Downward Is Heavenward. Haven't listened to it yet but it has even better reviews than You'd Prefer An Astronaut, which I absolutely love. Fuzzy, distorted goodness.

Then you've got a kickass few hours of listening to enjoy. Madlib never disappoints.

Bonobo - Dial "M" for Monkey

Both this and Animal Magic are great chill trip-hop, I prefer this one a bit more.

Sixtoo - The Psyche Intangible

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_p2Svtlybpl...gibleFront.jpg

Dark, ambient hip hop, sort of like Alias but emptier.

You got the Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip from me and I can't believe it was only 99 cents...

Also good choice on the Hum album.

Two bucks. Used.
I love the packaging more then the remixes, I'll admit, but the remixes are good nonetheless. Neon gas masks just happen to be my favorite things in the world.

That's right, your Tuesday thread. Yeah I couldn't believe it either, that's one of the best feelings when you actually find an amazing CD surrounded by the Vanilla Ice and the other ****ty 90s alt-rock groups.

Always interesting to hear other people's descriptions of albums. I would have never thought to call this ambient in any way. Glad to see some Sixtoo appreciation though.

The Bird and the Bee - Interpreting the Masters, Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates
I remember liking some of their previous work and I kinda have a soft spot for H&O, so this should be fun.

last week i went on a film score kick and downloaded just about every score by Danny Elfman. so far, i like Edward Scissorhands best, followed by Mars Attacks, though the new Alice in Wonderland is also quite nice.

http://lineout.thestranger.com/files...dear%20you.jpg
also got Jawbreaker's discography. not sure why it took me so long, i've been loving the hell out of Dear You for a good 10 years...

The Stone Roses - S/T [20th Anniversary Edition] (2009)

Nice remaster of one of the best albums in all of music canon. I like the fact that 'Fools Gold' was added to the official track listing also.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ScCCLsJ3SM...20/gaspop.jpeg
Gas - Pop (2000)

A classic, monstrously fine exercise in soothing, organic-yet-almost-danceable ambient. Much like a day at the river fishing, you can hear a brook like this babble by all day long and never tire of the sound.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YLvuHaPT9P...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
Hive - Devious Methods (1998)

Somewhere between the atmospherics of Goldie and the Frankenstein beats of DJ Shadow lies this little gem by Hive: meticulous, soulful drum n' bass bursting at the seams with spaciousness and many awesome samples. Ideal for a late night when the moon is full and one's mind is cluttered.

It has strong points and weak points (as of the first listen, anyways), but I think the later tracks blow the first ones out of the water.

It's no The Sun Rises in the East, but it's still pretty solid. Jeru's pretty underrated as far as MC's go, but then again he's been sort of hit-or-miss for most of his career.

Black Metal but with a splash of Industrial and some melody. I think it's bloody great and a little different to many bands out there.

Handsome Boy Modeling School- So...How's Your Girl?

I like their last album a bit more, but this one has some pretty epic turntabling and more straight-forward on the whole hip-hop aspect than White People.
Waterworld's flat-out AMAZING.

I ordered a few CDs today, all of which I have on MP3 and are obviously good enough that I wanted physical copies. And seeing jackhammer's post right above, I can't just post and run! So I'll leave some comments.

Silver Jews - American Water
I've heard 3 of their albums and this is by far the one I enjoy most. Perhaps because Stephen Malkmus does a lot of the vocals.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg

Architeq - Gold + Green
Really been enjoying this one lately. Don't know quite how to describe it...electronic, kind of IDM, a bit of wonk, good bass, but chill. Funky with good melodies. Vocals on a couple of tracks (male and female on separate tracks), which I normally don't go for with a lot of electronic but they work really well here. His style reminds me a lot of Kelpe who I've been a big fan of the past year.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg

Not Breathing - The Black Old Pueblo
This dude makes a lot of his own hardware. He's been around a while, basically making experimental techno, sometimes ambient. He kind of straddles the fence between industrial and IDM...but his style varies a good bit from album to album. This is my personal favorite of the 3-4 I've heard, and includes collaborations with Jack Dangers (Meat Beat Manifesto) and Mark Spibey (Dead Voices on Air, Download, Beehatch, etc) among others.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg

Robert Logan - Cognessence
I don't remember how I heard of this guy, but he makes really nice IDM. Very intricate stuff, often dark, sometimes atmospheric yet he's not afraid of melodies. I hear some Autechre influence for sure, maybe Richard Devine too, and there is also a strong classical influence present.

sidewinder 03-25-2010 11:46 PM

Just ordered one more CD. A really nice electronic album from Spain. Sounds like a mixture of Plaid and Autechre.

EEDL - Everse

Bought

http://www.alternative-zine.com/imag...aster__big.jpg

Anathema - A Natural Disaster

My favourite Anathema album. I actually picked up my 2nd favourite last week at the record store so finding this one there today was pretty cool.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rAx9SOMx_q...2.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

The Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat

I mostly bought this for the booklet with the lyrics, but it does feel nice to have an indie rock album in my mostly metal CD library.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5XikAIVUob...%281993%29.jpg

Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses

So I originally bought this album in like 2001 from the same place I was today, but sold it back to them in 2006 to help pay for gas. My library really is not complete without it.

http://angeldust.metal.zip.net/images/jugulator.jpg

Judas Priest - Jugulator

Pretty much the same deal with Type O Negative, had it, sold it, bought it back.

Suffice it to say the clerk was a little perplexed with the stack, metal, metal, metal, wtf?

It's intentionally cheesy, it showcases the band's sense of humor which is incredibly rare in most metal bands.
