lo-fi tales of lost souls, wandering through the lonestar state. the entire album was recorded on a panasonic boombox. john darnielle at his lo-fi finest.

Considering your description of the music, I understand what they were going for with the album cover, but that is still one of most atrocious pieces of cover art I've ever seen. I'm sure they could've done something better with it while still making it look undesigned.

It's a good enough album but Sweden is what I call his lo-fi (and overall) finest

Lol, I was thinking pretty much this when I saw it. :D

sidewinder 03-17-2010 05:32 PM

I think this will be the first Coheed album I won't buy immediately upon release, unheard. I'll be sampling first, this time. I like the artwork though.

THE COOPER TEMPLE CLAUSE - MAKE THIS YOUR OWN (2007)
I had this when it was released. Actually I had the pre release copy but it seems to have been lost. By far the worst of their 3 records but i enjoy a spin every now and then.

The Fiery Furances - EP

So how does one follow up something as... unique as Blueberry Boat? By releasing a series of more accessible B-sides to prove to their audience that they're not as "special" as they'd like you to believe.

scottsy 03-17-2010 07:30 PM

I've always kinda wanted to hear some Fiery Furnaces, but somehow never took the initiative to download or buy any of their stuff... are they worth it or should I just go on being lazy?

Well their 2nd album, Blueberry Boat is a pretty polarized album. To some it's the equivalent of a cum soaked sandwich and to others it gently massages their balls (or clits) while cooing sympathetic and supporting words in their ears. It's hard to tell where you stand as I don't know much about your musical tastes, but if you're into experimental music in any way, shape, or form, then it does certainly warrant a download. Be warned though... it's REALLY odd... Great at some parts and then you just want it to end but it never does...

scottsy 03-17-2010 08:16 PM

Thanks for the heads up.... experimental is great to these ears so it may well be worth a look...

LoathsomePete 03-17-2010 08:54 PM

Here's the kicker, NME gave it a 1/10 and Pitchfork gave it a 9.6/10 so all the hipster kids were really confused on what to do. I mean arguably the two biggest mediums for indie music that have a cult of worshipers who would gladly murder their entire family if it meant a jam session with Stephen Malkmus, are disagreeing with each other. What ever is a hipster to do?

Judas Priest - Jugulator (1997)

http://en.academic.ru/pictures/enwik...tiny_cover.jpg

Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny (1976)

These albums create an interesting contrast to one and other. While Jugulator was never really liked much by the press, it was the 2nd Priest album I ever got and "Cathedral Spires" is a f*cking wicked song.

Ooh, I think I might change up my hairstyle to be more like the second guy from the left. I believe the technical name for that style is "The Snoopy". :D

scottsy 03-19-2010 02:35 PM

My better half bought the Broken Bells CD today, and I am sitting by her computer while she is listening to it, and ya know what.... I'm actually really liking this... I think I am going to have to rip it off her...

Jugulator is a pretty average album but as said "Cathedral Spires" is something special. I could just never get into Ripper Owen on vocals and always imagined what it would have been like with Rob Halford singing on this album.

MGMT - Congratulations

I have heard a lot of bad talk about this album but I'm going to have to listen and judge for myself

Went on a little binge tonight, to brighten up my spirits a bit.... back to 70 hour work weeks next week has me a little more downbeat than i probably should be...

Anyways, came home a happy man with a little bag filled with...

7 Worlds Collide - The Sun Came Out
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
The Arcade fire - Neon Bible

Cragataska - Utanç

From what I've heard they seem like one of the most original black metal bands I've heard in awhile!

Exiled from Light - There Is No Beauty Left Here

http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/p...g?t=1269067022

I heard about them when I went from "related video" to "related video" on good ol' YouTube. Sounds like some fantastic DSBM

Kid606 - Songs About Fucking Steve Albini

Hah!

Bought:

Samael - The Eternal

Love this album, it's some good industrial metal.

Anathema - Judgement

While I prefer A Natural Disaster more, this is still a top notch album.

Sebadoh - Bakesale

I picked up their album III a little while ago and really enjoyed it, plus the CD was only 10 bucks so I figured why not.

For the most part ambient white noise, it has it's purpose but for active listening it's a big negatory.

That sounds interesting to me actually, totally different from the two Kid 606 albums I have which are both aggressively rhythmic and fast.

Motorpsycho - Trust Us (1998)

Is it art-grunge? Is it neo-psychedelia with a Sparklehorse complex? Not sure on either, but these guys are extremely potent no matter the song, and I'm happy I tracked it down!

Secede - Tryshasla (2005)

An ambient album that ranks among the best ever produced by humankind. Low-key, concise, uplifting, but gorgeously textured and attention grabbing all the same. This, friends, is bliss in sonic form.

Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out Of This Country

After killing My Maudlin Career, I decided to check out what else this band can do. Let's Get Out Of This Country was the album right before My Maudlin Career, and it is also a winner. Their songs are like candy...twee-ish pop with a southern tinge from Glasgow that I just can't get enough of.
