King Crimson - Islands

Prompted by another thread.

I was absolutely transfixed by this band - waiting with bated breath for each of the first 7 albums.
Knew all of Sinfield's lyrics by heart and even would reproduce the covers on big hunks of
construction paper in my workshop/studio. Saw them live in '69, '71 and '73. Each album always
seemed to be an extension of the previous one - even the first one which brought forth stuff from
Giles, Giles, and Fripp. The musicianship would naturally be extraordinary since it featured a lot
of the crème de la crème of the British free-jazz scene of the day.

Crushed when the band completely dissolved in '74.

Broadcasting from Home by Penguin Café Orchestra

growing up my parents didn't really listen to music, but I distinctly remember PCO inexplicably being included in their collection alongside Collective Soul or the Dixie Chicks. I never questioned it or even wondered what it was as a kid (despite funny penguin imagery, perhaps the artwork was still a bit jarring for youngster me). But to me this is the essential "furniture music" or music to play in a cozy family household. It's just nice to have around

Good to hear this Jacques Bekaert album again.
Some really good avant-garde/Fluxus-based performers on here.
David Behrman, George Lewis, "Blue" Gene Tyranny, Ryo Koike,
Takehisa Kosugi, Maggi Payne, Shigeko Kubota, David Rosenboom ...
