Got my hands on a few more CD's.
Fiona Apple - Tidal Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine I ignored Fiona Apple for years. Big mistake. For some reason, I thought for sure that she was more of an adult contemporary, sort of boring artist, in the vein of Alicia Keys. Instead, she's in Tori Amos territory, so I'm at home here. At least so it seems. I've still only heard Tidal once and the other one zero times. But I skipped through the latter on Spotify before I bought these albums and I really liked what I heard, so I expect it to hold water. Katy Perry - Witness Surprisingly well made. I'm very happy with the stylistically consistent use of synths and dark R&B influenced club sungs. To my shock, I think I might like 14 out of 15 tracks here! My experience with contemporary, mainstream pop tends to be that they're way too long and full of fillers. Not this one - it's got plenty of good songs. MB's pop fans should take notice of this album. (Don't believe me? Check out the track below!) Medina - Velkommen til Medina The White Trashiest Albums thread had me posting some things I considered to be a Danish equivalent. It was a really interesting night on youtube for me, since I took some time to actually really listen to a lot of Danish pop that I've always been trying to avoid. To my surprise, much of it wasn't as bad as I remembered and I found myself even liking Medina. I took a chance and bought this album (her debut, I think) and it's a solid, tight collection of 10 club bangers with spot-on production and vocals. Occulthawk may just indirectly have started what will end up as a reconsiliation between me and the music of my own country. No joke! Isn't that a beautiful thing? |

I agree with you about the interminably long intros & outros. On Final Frontier, that whole Satellite 15 thing could be completely erased, When The Wild Wind Blows & The Man Who Would Be King would be better served stripped down to 1/2 their length. In fact, the 2nd half of the album's songs are bloated, indulgent affairs that a casual listener would easily be turned off by. Heck, I'm a hardcore fan, and those cuts rarely, if ever, make it on to any Maiden playlists on my Ipod. (I change them up every so often) Also, being a diehard, I probably give new stuff more of a chance to absorb than the passing listener. I am really loving Book Of Souls. but it didn't start catching until the 3rd-4th listen. Now, 6 of the first 7 cuts are ones I really like, but, like The Final Frontier, the second half loses any kind of momentum the first half brings. Dickinson on piano for the 18 minute 'Empire Of The Clouds?' Wow, talk about your ego-driven offal. Anyhow, regardless of any of that, you gotta give this band some credit. 38 years since their first album, and they're still doing world tours. And I don't mean club dates. These cats are selling out arenas and stadiums. |

When it comes to Iron Maiden, Empire of the Clouds sort of encapsulates what I feel about their post-Brave New World output. I want to like it and I see the ambition, but I can't stop groaning with boredom :/ |

As far as the new Titus album, it's pretty divided on Metacritic. I thoroughly enjoy it though anything Stickles does with the band has always been fantastic. Legendary Jersey band.
