Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven! This has got to be the best post-rock album I've ever heard. So far I have found the majority of post-rock to be beautiful, but ultimately soulless. Not so. Skinny Fists is moving from start to finish, and beautifully balanced. |

Jon Brion - Meaningless (2001; Power Pop, Pop Rock, Piano Rock) This is the exact recipe that went into making this album: 2 parts Ben Folds Five 2 parts Elliott Smith 1 part Rufus Wainwright 1 part Fiona Apple It sounds like that for a reason. Jon Brion has produced nearly all of these people. I feel like Jon Brion is the guy you never knew you knew the work of. Anyways, interesting to see how obvious his production work is after hearing his solo stuff, which is decent, if a little whiny. |

There's also a beautiful album by a band called Break My Fucking Sky which blew the top of my head off.
