I'm convinced that you've listened to neither.

Ive never really liked these guys much beyond a couple songs, but for whatever reason I haven't had the strength to delete Funeral off my pod. I haven't heard it in its entirety for years and its always been garnered a "this is quite ok" reaction from me in the past. but it was one of the first "critically acclaimed indie rock" albums I heard, and although that really isn't my scene either, it's stuck with me if only for that one reason.

im liking it I think more than I usually do, but again I find myself wanting to listen to specific songs rather than sitting through the whole dang thing
That's a shame. That's literally one of the best records of the 21st century. Give Neon Bible a listen instead, that's my personal favorite and one of my favorite albums I've ever listened too. Still though, quite a shame you find it difficult to sit through the whole dang thing.

Does it matter when both bands are ass?

Cringey cleans, boring and cheesy screams, dull and lifeless riffs, identical fanbase.

it's not that I find it difficult to sit through (I did enjoy listening to it today), but rather that I more easily notice it's highs and lows. I wouldn't put it up with the best of the century, but I can understand the hype

I have listened to Neon Bible, though again not for years, but I was less a fan of that than Funeral from memory

^ Hey, by coincidence, I've just acquired Funeral too! I haven't played it enough to have a sure opinion about it yet, but it sounds quite promising so far. Reviewers speak highly of the lyrics (which I haven't really followed yet) but some tracks sound a little flat somehow. To make up my mind I'll have to transfer it to my car, which is where I do all my serious listening these days (2 hours' worth every day).

PS: Liking Neighbourhood #3, Power Out as I type this.
