Fabric 44 by John Tejada
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...GL._SS400_.jpg

Slow and brooding techno/house mix from last year. Got this for free yesterday actually, as a bonus for signing up for the Fabricfirst program, but it's a pretty sick mix, so score!

...A complete lack of boobs on the front cover however. D:<

Been one of my favourite punk albums since like 2004 when I first got it.

The Poison by Bullet For My Valentine.

Waay better than Scream Aim Fire in my opinion. Hopefully they can get their arses back into Metalcore.

CanwllCorfe 02-26-2010 01:16 AM

I got a suggestion, on Basenotes of all places, to try Tom Waits after I had posted a song by Circus Contraption (thanks to Loathsome Pete). I had heard his name before on here but didn't think much of it. Then when I looked him up on YouTube and saw the first video (Chocolate Jesus) I had recognized him. I actually saw that performance and thought.. what the hell is this? I love it. I had no idea THAT was him.. so now I feel like an idiot. I'm now going to download a couple albums randomly.

NumberNineDream 02-26-2010 01:44 AM

Finally downloading the WHY? discography, I still need to download the first (Part Time People Cage…Or Part Time Key?) and the last album (Eskimo Snow).

Also downloading Roy Orbison's discography, that man is gold!
Sadly, I'm only stumbling on compilations instead of studio albums :/

Zer0 02-26-2010 10:41 AM

Got a couple of CDs second-hand for €3 each

http://images.uulyrics.com/cover/l/l...-of-silver.jpg
LCD Soundsystem - Sound Of Silver

http://mediaportal.ru/uploads/posts/...tanding_1.jpeg
Röyksopp - The Understanding

And i also got this CD free with Mojo magazine, they're always great for compilations. There's a few bands on it that i hadn't heard until now and it's pretty damn awesome!

My latest download was the album "Judas Christ" by Tiamat, a gothic rock band with "psychedelic rock and space rock influences":

I'm glad you appreciate real art like I do, Petula07. ;)

I quite enjoyed the Tiamat album, which an online acquaintance suggested. I had never listened to them before and found I liked aspects of their music. I'll be curious to learn what you think about the album after you listen. I'd also like to find out what other albums are on your list--I know you have an eclectic taste in music and that it overlaps with mine.

An Horse - Not Really Scared
I absolutely love their full length Rearranged Beds. This is just an EP of earlier versions of five songs off of that.

Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow

Basia Bulat - Heart of My Own
I've only heard a handful of her songs but my friend offered me a ticket to see her on the third so I thought I'd investigate a bit.

The last album I bought was "Pray For Villains" by Devildriver.
The last album I DL'd was "The Voice" by Kokia.
I recommend both.
They are wins.

The Beatles - Live at the Star Club bootleg, 1962

'nuff said. Far from being contingent to the obligatory Beatles pop worship, this stands alone as a document of what many consider to be, possibly, the only decent rock n' roll group to have emerged from the UK. What else did we have, the tamed sounds of Cliff Richard's sub-Elvis efforts? The fact is British rock n' roll was always a poor imitation of the vitality and energy of the American originals...
And it is, aptly, the Beatles who would push the UK onto the world stage with beat music, a harmony-laden pop fuelled by the American rock n' roll/R&B heroes of the previous decade and skiffle from the UK.

What amazes me though is that anybody had the foresight/equipment to have recorded this set. There is nothing wrong with the sound bar the vocals being a little distant, as they would have been anyhow, heard from the back of a room through a comparatively primitive PA. But they still go hell for leather. Tight as a drum and the most impressive part is easily George's guitar work, which is much less subdued playing this kind of music. There are only a couple of Lennon/Macca originals to be heard, and these are predictably the rockiest ones

yes i do . it is in 128 which is pretty annoying, but depending on how much you value it that site also has it in FLAC somewheres. personally i dont think i can be bothered to spend fifty hours downloading it and converting it to HQ mp3 with Winamp.
there was this 'top 101 Beatles songs' list thing that Mojo magazine did years ago I have been trying to track down to no avail, and what was special about THAT was that they got musicians to do vox pops for each entry - Billy Childish chose a Star Club track. I believe they also had Ozzy Osbourne doing 'In My Life', Wayne Coyne 'strawberry fields'... forgot the rest :(
