The Mothers of Invention
Weasels Ripped My Flesh

Started to really dive into Frank's discography solo and with the mothers.

Interested in your thoughts on The Perfect Stranger when you get to it.

Funny you guys are talking Zappa. I just had a conversation with a coworker today about how I've never been able to get into him. His music has always seemed a lot less weird than it's made out to be and that's been a turn off to me. What would you guys say is the stuff I should really check out?

I'm catching Zappa on tour when tickets become available.

I agree that Zappa is touted as a faaaaaar more experimental figure than he really is. I think that's just the ignorance of those who know him through due to him breaching the mainstream, sort of like how the rap equals crap crowd is typically have only ever heard a handful of pop rap tracks. Then again, it seems like Zappa has developed an annoying experimental dudebro culure around himself.

Some essential albums: One Size Fits All, Hot Rats, Apostrophe, and Zoot Allures.

They all pretty much the same style or are there big differences between them?

Hot Rats is more of an exception I suppose.

It's more of a jazz album and it's a lot less connected to prog/Anton Webern flavoured rock sound that you associate with him (maybe).
