The Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat

So... that was quite the album... I wish that some of the songs were better paced though because it seemed like every idea in the world was crammed into every song and it artificially lengthened them. Other than that it was a terrific album, very unique, and while it may be something I won't listen to every day, definitely something I'd listen to again.

I've always gotten the impression that they try to do too much with their songwriting. Not in the sense that there's so much going on at one time, just that they lengthen it with non-sequitur and abbreviated attempts at misdirection.

Maybe just not the stuff for me.

No I definitely agree about the songwriting, however I usually find myself listening more to the instrumentation on a first listen of an album than the lyrics. I think this stems from the fact that I'm a musician myself and my egotistical side is going "Yeah... I could play this, we're equals". It definitely isn't the album for everyone, but one of these days I'm going to do shrooms and listen to it because it was the perfect sound for me to create an awesome tripping soundtrack. Also here's a question, did you turn off my Alt. Country beginner's guide because you didn't like it or 30 songs was a little too much time to dedicate for one listen?

Oh also:

http://athousandgrams.com/features/t...%2Barrows.jpeg

The Walkmen - Bows + Arrows

The sound gets a little grating after awhile but I've found myself enjoying this album, but I think I really need to sit down with headphones to get the full appreciation.

Nah, I took it in shifts, but I got to the whole thing eventually. And I quite liked a few of those artists, I could see revisiting one or two of them.

If I am a big fan of Daft Punk and Eric Prydz, would I enjoy this? A friend recommended it to me, but I never got to ask him if someone with my tastes in this type of music would like it.

I honestly don't listen to a lot of the genre and am not familiar with Eric Prydz but having heard a limited amount of Daft Punk, you'd probably enjoy it.

Hopefully Kayleigh will chime in.

OK Archers of Loaf was an awesome indie rock album but the Crooked Fingers one was such a shift in... everything that I couldn't finish it. How could a band that rocked so hard go to something so... soft and boring?

If you like Shearwater then you should definitely check out one of their newer albums called Rook. I may even be able to dig up a link for you.

Just so you know The Golden Archipelago is their newest album. I'm not sure what the actual release date is but if you want to check it out let me know.

The Delgados - Hate

Scotland has been impressing me with it's music lately which leaves me conflicted... on the one side I think it'd look awesome if we bulldozed and turned it into a parking lot, but then I think of all the Scots who may not approve... although it'd be hard to really tell with their accents.

Black Dog Productions - Bytes (1993)

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg

Early projects associated with Plaid. The Black Dog is the group that the 2 members of Plaid were originally part of with one other guy, and Black Dog Productions was kind of a group of micro-bands...which is why this is essentially a various artists release. So there are tracks credited to Plaid, The Black Dog, and a handful of other project names involving various combinations of the 3 members. Something like that.

Brand New - The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me (2006)

Surprisingly stellar when its doing other things besides being yet another post-hardcore screamo tinged album, and not too bad even when the playing, vocals and general delivery falls into the trappings of said genre. In the context of myself, this is the equivalent of a musical baptism.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_YbOaVFNxh3...00/mmfront.jpg
Mercury Magic - Mercury Magic (1980)

An insanely obscure mid-tempo rock n' roll album with sax, flute, some reggae bass and a prog. rock aesthetic dealing with themes of love, heartbreak and other tempestuous hormonal lyrical themes. Ideal for a late night drive with your GF/BF.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_YLvuHaPT9P...+artist+in.jpg
Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance (2003)

Although I got this mostly for middle school nostalgia reasons (which might as well be a century ago for me), it holds up surprisingly well to my current set of ears. Classic post-2000 melodic hardcore that proves to be infectious once you turn your brain off.

Recently downloaded Get Lonely by The Mountain Goats... darn fine album, very dark, very personal and its sound somewhat matches its lyrical desolation... one feels very lonely as you parse the lyrics, listen to the sometimes solitary guitar parts... and the oh so deeply personal lyrics, about a break up and its aftermath. A darn compelling and brilliant album is what ]'d call it.

Opeth - Damnation

Riverside - Anno Domini High Definition

Love that Opeth album... my favourite one by them is 'Still Life'

I've always been interested in Riverside but haven't heard any of their stuff. I'll definitely need to check 'em out.

I've got a few Riverside albums and I think the best one to start off with is either Out of Myself or Rapid Eye Movement. Neither of them are particularly "hard" but it's still pretty decent progressive metal if you're driving with grandma.

Ken Andrews -Secret of the Lost Satellite

Solo album from the former Failure frontman and I have to say I am really enjoying it. I love Failure, I love Autolux, and now I'm really starting to enjoy Ken Andrew's solo work, now I just need to find out what the former bassist of the band has been up to to complete my collection.

http://www.bluekitchen.net/BESNARDLA...darkhorses.jpg

Besnard Lakes - Are the Dark Horse

Sort of a post-rock/shoegaze/indie band out of Canada that I've heard good things about.

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/174s/39316205.jpg

Hum - Downward is Heaven

Sort of a fuzzy space rock band with some indie influence, great album.

http://shopbase.finetunes.net/shopse...datatype=fc300

Free Kitten - Sentimental Education

Collaboration album from Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and Julia Cafritz of Pussy Galore... could be interesting.

Just finished downloading Everything Is True by Something for Kate's Paul Dempsey.... looking forward to giving this one a nice, close listen!
