CunninLynguists - The Azura EP (2017) The second EP released by the hip hop trio this year. Their previous one, The Rose EP, didn't really blow me away, but EPs almost never do. The Azura EP is a little more of the same, but this doesn't have a remix, so it's 3 new tracks. It's definitely their most politically charged music since 2007's Dirty Acres, which given the current political climate I'm not exactly surprised. I just hope this isn't building up to a full release done up as EP's. Either way, if you like CunninLynguists you'll probably still get something out of this, but if you're unfamiliar with them, or only know them by name and or reputation, then there are better places to start than here. |

Abrasive analogue electronics that are meant to convey an end-of-the-world feel,
but really just comes off as harsh square wave flux that really doesn't appear "dire." It has the harshness of some of Pierre Henry's work, but without conveying a storyline. It's a curio from a guy who was better known as a rock and folk musician. It's definitely different than the masters of Soviet electronics: the Artemiev father and son. You can hear it here: |

Minuit Machine - Live & Destroy (2014) Darkwave/coldwave/synthpop from France. I'm getting some big dark, ominous vibes from this one. Definitely a keeper. Japanese Breakfast - Soft Sounds From Another Planet (2017) I'm really enjoying this album, despite a couple of not so amazing tracks. But this album is right up there with my favourites so far this year. This album is dreamy melancholic indie rock for those of you unaware.
