It also is a good choice if you're driving with people who like metal, but not extreme metal, and want to listen to something other than the usual suspects in alternative metal.

Just played this and wrote a review, FYI.

Love it. Better then The Stage Names, and that's saying something.

My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything

Finally starting to "get" these guys, the considerable influence they had on 'indie' music as we know it today is astounding. Especially in the guitar department.

Celtic metal? We'll see how this goes down. Already digging the instrumentals.

Not heard it yet to be honest.
I kind of lost interest in them when the original line up fell apart and wasn't too keen on the direction they were taking. I preferred them when they were doing kind of laid back hip hop rather than them sounding like some faceless electronica band.

If you've not heard it yet you really should check out Tricky's Maxinquaye album.

That's what I was listening to while downloading the album :p: . I was going to ask for some suggestions as I only have that one by Tricky. What shall I get next?

I'm assuming the album you're listening to is Maxinquaye in which case the next step is to grab the 1996 follow-up Nearly God.

eeee a live album by Meshuggah!!! just what I need for the drive to school today. And next week, Finntroll drop their newest album, 2010 is shaping to be a good year for metal.

Hey man, you still got the link for this one? If so, swing this way please. I have a link but looks a little suspect at the moment.

Cheers

Autolux - Future Perfect

It has the drummer from the '90's alt. rock band Failure that I recently discovered so I decided to give it a try. I've heard conflicting opinions on it, one side saying if you liked Failure you'll like Autolux, and others saying that it's watered-down post-grunge crap.

Future Perfect is incredible, one of my top 10 albums of the 00's. It was released here in 2005 and 5 years later i'm still itching for their second album to be released. Watered-down post-grunge crap?? Not a hint of it! They're more in debt to late 80's/early 90's shoegaze than grunge (call them nu-gaze if you must). But every song on Future Perfect is amazing and the album has a really consistent feel to it.

Yeah that's not post-grunge. At all.

Max Richter - Blue Notebooks. From the few songs I heard off the album, I'm sure I'll love it.

Babe Rainbow - Shaved EP
New Warp Records signing, this just came out. It's decent, nothing really special.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg

Rishloo - Feathergun
Despite my mostly negative review of their previous album yesterday, I'm still curious about how they'll progress from that album so I'm going to give this one a shot.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg

The Pharcyde
- Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde
I've had this a long time already but my CD is scratched to hell which created a bad rip so I just downloaded some fresh mp3s.

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image....L._AA280_.jpg

Autechre - Quaristice.Quadrange.ep.ae
Digital-only release of alternate versions of tracks from the album Quaristice. It's an EP but is over 2 hours in length.

Still needs another listen from me before I can really give an educated opinion.

I liked Eidolon but its quality was very inconsistant and there were only a few standouts.

Anteater 02-11-2010 03:50 PM

Well, be rest assured guys: Feathergun is a better album than Eidolon; Rishloo noticeably shifted their sound on it towards more spacious territory than before. It'll be impossible for them to ever completely shake the Tool comparisons though, as their vocalist sounds like Maynard when he gets more aggressive.

Also, a few albums I've picked up-

http://wakagi.up.seesaa.net/image/stevie_wonder1974.jpg
Stevie Wonder - Fulfillingness' First Finale (1974)

Probably Stevie's most underrated classic, and one that I can happily say possesses a wonderfully peculiar mood. However, it never forgets to keep its hooks and textured grooves within arms' reach. Me like much.

http://cdn.7static.com/static/img/sl...229713_350.jpg
Gong - Acid Motherhood (2004)

British Space Rock gods collaborating with the Acid Mothers Temple, Japan's singular most awesome psychedelic-anything band? OMGYES!! Beyond a generic word like "masterpiece" though, I can't think of any particular way to describe the experience of going through this album. Needless to say though, its incomparable to anything else.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ay6wplqABi...400/myarms.jpg
Opeth - My Arms Your Hearse (1997)

By some divine luck, I found this at 320 kbps ripped from VINYL of all things, and it does wonders in bringing out the sheer breadth of this prog. death onslaught.

Haha! In their Myspace blog they said both Abominations and Black Dog Yodel are "to celebrate the ugly spirit of Halloween". I've been obsessed with Halloween since I was a kid so I pretty much got them RIGHT after I read that.

Robert Logan - Inscape

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA280_.jpg

I was rather impressed by this guy's first album earlier today, so I decided to get his most recent one too.

Been aware of this for a while but never checked it out, this recent discussion has me saying "why not"....so here I go downloading. I don't know if I'll like it but it's worth a shot.

BTW LoathsomePete, your Rateyourmusic.com image isn't showing, because they don't allow image hotlinking.

Oh and, thanks to Jackhammer.

I enjoyed it on the first few listens through, the rhythm section holds the chaotic noisy elements together really well.

lucifer_sam 02-12-2010 06:35 AM

^ Uh...there isn't a rhythm section. It's all done on a drum machine that I think they programmed modeling David Witte's technique.

TheImpossiblePrince 02-12-2010 12:07 PM

Several:

FC Kahuna - "Machine Says Yes"
Blue States - "Nothing Changes Under the Sun"
Kylie Minogue - "Kylie Minogue" ('94 Special Edition)
Deadly Avenger - Deep Red
Imogen Heap - Ellipse

PROUD MARY - THE SAME OLD BLUES (2001)

Indie/rock with slight touches of country and blues. Some nice little harmonies and melodies. Far from an adventurous album but i had to download this again as it was something i listened to quite alot in my youth when it first came out. It's good for a quick listen/chill out every now and then.

NumberNineDream 02-12-2010 12:42 PM

Finally downloaded Noir Désir's discography. Here are my favourite 4:

A bassist and a drum machine is still a rhythm section.

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

I liked Uncle Tupelo but for some reason I never really looked into Wilco until now. Considering how highly regarded this album is on both this forum and other forms of media I expect it to make my head explode with awesomeness. If I am not wiping awesomeness off my computer monitor later on tonight I am going to be very disappointed.
