This used to be the soundtrack to my waterfall soaked, mountaintop Georgia vacations when I was younger

Slowdive - Slowdive (2017) It was difficult not to have sky-high expectations going into this album. They are one of my all-time favourite bands after all. But hearing their first new album in 22 years had me perhaps a tiny bit underwhelmed. This album does not scale the awesomeness of Souvlaki, Pygmalion, or any of their early EPs, but what we do have is still a good album. Musically it sounds like the missing link between Souvlaki and Pygmalion and I give them credit for not just completely rehashing their past. But props to them for making a comeback album which doesn't suck.

Same here. No idea what it is, but the fact that I can't read it without effort makes me wanna listen to it. Actual cover reminds me of Khanate's debut and SYL's City.

Well, where to begin...
The label is Edition Modern out of Bucharest. They're pretty much devoted to the music of husband and wife composers Dumitrescu and Avram with about 50 releases. Any of them that you are interested in, I can send you samples because they're composers I'm pretty devoted to and have all of the discs. Dumitrescu's music is a kind of spectralist form that is distinct from French spectralism. Often, the music sounds improvised, but is very carefully notated (he described to me his notation software when I asked). Part of one of the scores is reproduced in the middle of the cover above. If you ever decide to purchase any of the CDs, I'll have to warn you that the actual disc quality is so shoddy that it is the only label that I've ever broken a CD while removing it from the jewel case - real crappy thin discs that you can actually see thru(!?). Back in the 90s, I broke two of them. I'm extra careful now. Also, they had a weird habit of reproducing their CD distributor's names on the FRONT covers - often misspelling them (should be "a-musik" on this one, for example). |

Yes, "Doryphories" is the last piece on the CD,
but it's performed by the Hyperion Ensemble. More info here. Also, what I mean by "send" is that I can upload it to YouTube for you. Last edited by rostasi; 04-24-2017 at 09:47 PM. |
