Clarence Clarity - No Now (2015)

As recommended to me first by my friend Ben (less trusted source) and then by Goof (more trusted source). I don't think I could describe this album's genre, but it's both noisy and hooky. One of the best things I've heard from the backlog this year. It's dirty-sexy.

Glass Candy | B/E/A/T/B/O/X

I can honestly say there's very few electronic records I actually do love, but this just made it into my list.

The Healing Component by Mick Jenkins

ah man I think im about ready to pull the plug on me ever loving this one. Such high hopes as The Water[s] is one of my favorite hip hop projects (and I dig most of his other mixtapes more than this as well). This isn't a bad album by any means (certain tracks still get decent playlist time from me), but god the interludes are lame as hell, and hes traded in his laid-back "fuck it" bite for some hippy level consciousness. Conceptually The Water[s] was smart without being overwrought and ~flowed~ perfectly; The Healing Component's main issue is that it's trying too damn hard to be meaningful.

Anyway. Listen to The Water[s] please and thank you.

The Water[s] is so much better you would almost think it's two different artists. I only listened to THC one time completely, and a few times in part, but it failed to make any impression whatsoever. Did you like Trees and Truths?

Oh yeah Trees & Truths is very very good, and much more similar, sonically speaking, to The Water[s] - plus the running theme is pretty cool as well. I think I actually prefer all of his mixtapes to this album, which is bizarre because of how great I thought THC had the potential to be. The Water[s] might never be touched by him again, but that's more of a praise on how perfect I think that tape is than a slight on Mick.

If I had to rank his works:

The Water[/s] > Mickstape >/= Trees and Truths > Wave[/s] > THC
(haven't spent enough time with Pursuit of HappyNess, but it has some killer tracks so id probably put it between T&T and Wave[s])

his discography to date is still incredibly good.

Yeah, I thought his early stuff was pretty great as well. Wasn't a fun of Wave[s] though so I had a small feeling that THC wouldn't live up to what everyone wanted it to be, and that ended up being the case. Still think he has more than enough potential to bounce back though.

Wave[s] was saved by "Alchemy" and "Your Love" which are both songs Id put amongst his best, but besides that meh ("Ps and Qs" and "Piano" are good too). But it's also a lot different than The Water[s] and THC, so I guess at least he's pretty versatile. THC didn't ruin him for me or anything, and Ill definitely eat up anything he puts out, but we will see which direction he decides to go in

The Mermen - Do You Hear What I Hear - A Very Mermen Christmas (2012

Bought this album last week. Instrumental covers of various Christmas songs performed by psychedelic instrumental surf-rock trio "The Mermen."
So far, I think this qualifies as my favorite album of Christmas tunes ever. I'm really digging their dreamy, psychedelic twist on these classics.

The Mermen - The Coventry Carol

Sammus - Pieces in Space

I remember her from a few years back because she played a lot around where I went to school. Very smart rapper. Should be a good album.

Noname - Telefone

Every time I've heard her on a feature I've been impressed, so I have high hopes for this mixtape.

Tyler Daniel Bean - On Days Soon To Pass

I haven't listened to this yet, but everything he does is very personal and heartfelt. This should be no different.
