Cochin Moon by Haruomi Hosono (1978)

One precursor to Yellow Magic Orchestra. Treads the line between dated and novel - the third part of "Hotel Malabar", Roof Garden, somehow does this simultaneously (it is, however, likely my favorite part of this album). It is obviously influenced by traditional Indian music elements, but still has its own overall flavor even if it darts around a fair bit; "Hepatitis" wouldn't sound out of place on an old Nintendo game soundtrack (unsurprisingly, Hosono later created some early video game tunes) while the last track sounds very "Berlin". The experience is worth it for anyone who likes the whole 70s synth/electro sound.

I'm pretty shocked that this kind of happy hardcore/breakcore/whatever was still being made as of 2011, but this is good shit—crazy high-energy stuff to get chores done to.

Lightdreams - Islands In Space (1981)

Picked up this recently reissued cult album. Its pastoral space folk-rock with touches of ambient and acid rock humming around the edges. I think these guys were hitting the blunt pretty hard, most likely while jamming 'And You And I' by Yes on constant repeat....and I'm enjoying it quite a bit!

Disco Club by Black Devil Disco Club

the fascinating Parisian underground (both in popularity and creation) disco project, somehow coming up on its 40th birthday. There is something very unnerving about the atmosphere here. Something sinister lies here..

Ugh, here we go. Once again I waited too long since my last post and now I have a million albums to post here. Things I've downloaded, streamed, and otherwise listened to for the first time since my last post, in order, excluding vinyl purchases:

White Fence - Cyclops Reap (2013)
Den Sorte Skole - Indians & Cowboys (2015)
Lost Balloons - Lost Balloons (2015)
Young Rival - Interior Light (2015)
Paul De Jong - IF (2015)
The Natural History Museum - Attenborough (2016)
Teardrop Factory - Thrash in the Heart (2014)
Young Rival - Young Rival (2010)
Milo - So the Flies Don't Come (2015)
John Cale - Vintage Violence (1970)
Steep Leans - Grips On Heat (2015)
Kid Congo and The Pink Monkey Birds - Haunted Head (2013)
Czarface - Czarface (2013)
The Flaming Lips - The Terror (2013)
Young Rival - Stay Young (2012)
Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! (1978)
Devo - Duty Now for the Future (1979)
TRAAMS - Modern Dancing (2015)
Nap Eyes - Thought Rock Fish Scale (2016)
DIIV - Is the Is Are (2016)
Past Life - EP I (2016)
The Prids - ...Until the World Is Beautiful (2006)
Ulrika Spacek - The Album Paranoia (2016)
Sim Hutchins - I Enjoy to Sweep a Room (2015)
Floating Points - Elaenia (2015)
Total Slacker - Slip Away (2014)
Romare - Projections (2015)
A Frames - Black Forest (2005)
A Frames - A Frames (2002)
Saroos - Tardis (2016)
Four Tet - Pink (2012)
Can - Tago Mago (1971)
My Disco - Severe (2015)
Can - Monster Movie (1969)

Screw this - no images this time. Favorites in red. Later albums need more time before becoming favorites (like Can, for example).

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Wasn't a fan of the new DIIV record, but that Milo project is fantastic, one of the best surprises of last year for me.

Water Bearer by Sally Oldfield

What a nice way to start the morning. Just real quaint new-agey Irish folk. Leave your shoes and troubles at the door; you won't need them here.
