I enjoy the first two songs, but it takes a turn for the worst. But it might be a grower, I'm gonna listen to it more.

Harumi - Harumi
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xggbyDTWwUc 13 tracks sounds normal for a 1968 psychedelic pop album, right? That's what I thought. What I didn't realize is that this is in fact a double album. The last two tracks are 24 and 18 minutes long respectively, each occupying a full side of an LP, and consist of creepy Japanese spoken word (in English, but Japanese themed--the band's Japanese). I listened to it before going to bed and was so creeped out I couldn't sleep until three in the morning.

Recent CD acquisitions:
Various Artists - Still in a Dream: A Story of Shoegaze 1988-1995 (2016) Props to Cherry Red Records for releasing this 5 disc compilation with a 40 page booklet consisting of photos and band biographies. There's quite a lot on this that I was already familiar with but there's so much rare stuff that I've never heard before. My Bloody Valentine (gasp!!), The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Mazzy Star, Stereolab and The Verve are unfortunately absent due to licensing issues. It also could have included Band of Susans, SIANspheric and Henry's Dress. But even without these bands this compilation is just too awesome. Spoiler for Track listing:
Dead Can Dance - Spiritchaser (1996) There's a heavy African influence on this album and can be interestingly hypnotic at times. Not as good as other albums of theirs but enjoyable none the less. Talking Heads - Fear of Music (1979) Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food (1978) Got these two for €2 each. More Songs About Buildings and Food is my favourite Talking Heads album, so it's nice to have a physical copy of it. The Duke Spirit - Cuts Across the Land (2005) A female-fronted indie rock/garage rock band that's been on my radar for a while but never given a proper listen. I quite enjoy this. Perhaps a couple of unmemorable tracks on it, but songs like 'Love Is An Unfamiliar Name' hit the spot nicely. Ian Dury - Reasons to Be Cheerful: The Best of Ian Dury (2005) I "found" this in the bottom of an old desk cabinet in work (I assumed that no-one wanted it...). This compilation covers his solo material and his various bands including The Blockheads. It's hit or miss, but when it hits you can't help but nod along. A welcome addition to my CD collection though.

FFF—20.000 Hardcore Members Can't Be Wrong (2011) I'm pretty shocked that this kind of happy hardcore/breakcore/whatever was still being made as of 2011, but this is good shit—crazy high-energy stuff to get chores done to. |
