I remember saying to you this was better than A Grand Don't Come For Free. It's really fucking good. Turn The Page, Has It Come To This, Let's Push Things Forward, Same Old Thing, Don't Mug Yourself, Too Much Brandy, Geezers Need Excitement, Weak Become Heroes, It's Too Late >>> If you haven't heard Computers and Blues give it a go, though it's nothing like this or AGDCFF but it's probably his 2nd best album. The only awful Streets album is the third one, but that's because most of the material that was supposed to be on it was given to The Mitchell Brothers for their first album. Skinner wrote that entire album. Their second one they made themselves, and it was shit. He did it cos he wanted to put out an album but without having to do the promotion for it, and cos he thought Teddy had something about him. Even that album has a couple of great tracks on it though. Was saving this for my journal post but fuck it. Quote:
Also something funny, when I first heard Skinner, it was Weak Become Heroes on The Box I think it was, I thought it was absolutely shit and I hated it. Then I heard Has It Come To This and the penny dropped. Last edited by Cuthbert; 06-01-2015 at 10:15 PM. |

Girlpool - Before The World Was Big
I've listened to quite a few singles from this, and I loved their EP, so I'm really excited for this one. Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment - Surf It's free on iTunes and it's an awesome summer record, plus, Chance is the lead singer. Big fan.

Shopping - Consumer Complaints (2013) Black Cat just re-released this London-based band's debut for the US market, ahead of a planned sophomore album later this year. Upbeat post-punk with groovy baselines and female vocals. I keep reading people mentioning Gang of Four when talking about their sound, but no one mentions Pylon. They sound exactly like Pylon to me. And that's ok, because Pylon is awesome. Pinkunoizu - The Drop (2013) I put this in my streaming queue maybe 6 months ago, and have heard a few songs but never the full album until now. These Danes produce neo-psychedelia I suppose, with predominantly female vocals but the music takes precedence and the lyrics are not always intelligible (there's likely a mix of Danish and English). It's pretty out there, with a good bit of krautrock influence, but then you get a song in the middle like "The Swollen Map" that's mellow with soft English vocals, that could almost be considered indie pop. That's a pretty cool one, and it gets musically interesting toward the end before a smooth transition into the next one, with some male vocals this time - also in English. Hell, there's definitely some interesting stuff on here and I'll have to keep it in rotation.

Did you have a favourite track on OPM? Turn The Page for me. Computers and Blues has tracks like this on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR9D-bIgHJs This was the last track he did under that name. End of an era stuff. |
