Enslaved / Shining - Shining on the Enslaved (2015) A 6 song split by Enslaved and Shining, although I don't know if it's the Norwegian band Shining (that I like) or the Swedish band Shining (that are shit). I have to assume it's the Norwegian one as Enslaved are Norwegian and the Swedish Shining is a death metal band. Either way, their cover of "Immigrant Song" is really good, and it does a good job of scratching the itch I've had for their new album In Times that apparently just went up for streaming so I'll have a listen to that after this. |

Steven Wilson - Hand. Cannot. Erase. (2015) Probably the album I've been looking forward to the most this year and it hasn't disappointed. It's too early to compare this to any of his previous solo output but this album is seriously good. The electronic elements and female vocals work a treat too. Will Butler - Policy (2015) This album starts off promising with two decent tracks before descending into indie rock averageness. But thankfully this album was short. Will Butler, please don't give up your day job in Arcade Fire any time soon.

Enslaved - In Times (2015) I think it's pretty safe to say that Enslaved have one of the best streaks in history when it comes to releasing new albums. Everything since 2000's Mardraum: Beyond the Within has been an absolute blast to listen to, and while some albums weren't as strong as the previous (mostly just Vertibrae (2008) and RIITIIR (2012)), they've all been solid albums. In Times is no exception, but I do think it is more focused than RIITIIR where every single second of the album feels right, not out of place or meandering. This is definitely going to stay in the rotation for the rest of the year. |
