Hollie Cook - Twice Who says people don't make good pop records anymore? Hollie is the daughter of Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols, Her mother was in the early 80s famale pop band The Belle Stars and her Godfather is Boy George. She was also a member of the reformed Slits a few years ago (The opening track is a tribute to Ari Up). A nice laid back pop reggae vibe goes through this whole album. Some people might find it a bit samey but I enjoyed it. Luke Haines - Adventures In Dementia OH MY GOD!!!!!! I am fanboying so hard right now, Luke Haines, formerly of one of my favourite bands The Auteurs releases a mini album rock opera about Mark E Smith of The Fall, my other favourite band. I've not heard it yet but here's what the official blurb says about it... A Mark E Smith impersonator and members of Fall Group are en route to a rock 'n' roll festival. Members of Fall Group are not aware that 'MES' is actually an MES imposter. Smith is driving a battered Renault 5 and towing a Swift Swallow caravan (possibly under the influence of amphetamine sulphates and alcohol) when he crashes into an Austen Maestro. The Austin Maestro is being driven by a skinhead: Ian Stuart, lead singer of notorious 'white power' band Skrewdriver... Even before I've heard a note I'm loving it, greatest concept album idea ever.

The Black Dog "Temple of Transparent Balls" Early ambient IDM praised by DJs at the time. I also downloaded their darkwave mix playlist, oh god it's so good. https://soundcloud.com/the-black-dog...ark-wave-vol-2 |

Some recent buys, and striped bed cover:
Greg Ashley - Painted Garden Top left. Leader of The Gris Gris, who have release one of my favourite albums of all time (The Gris Gris). Pretty decent psyche/garage rock stuff, but not mind blowing. Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs - Sunday Run Me Over Top right. Standard kick-ass bluesy garage rock for the most part, with a few duds. Asaf Avidan - Gold Shadow Bottom. Best album of the year. Folk, soul, Americana and a lovely higher pitched voice.

Public Service Broadcasting - The Race for Space (2015) Pretty good album in a similar vein to Inform - Educate - Entertain, but less engaging and more electronic based at times. Pretty mellow near the end.
