The Band binge rolls on.
I can't believe it took me 21 years to truly appreciate this band, unbelievable musicians, every single one of them. Even their least unique songs (homages to old blues / country styles etc) hold together so well. Their greatest moments are pure ear candy, absolute masterclass songwriting. This is the kind of **** you get when everyone in your band is a talented multi-instrumentalist and a vocalist. Looking in from an outside perspective, calling yourselves "The Band" must seem pretty pretentious, but holy **** if there's any group that truly embodies what it means to be a band these guys are it.

When they were backing Dylan everyone just referred to them as "the band" and someone in their management suggested they stick with it when they parted ways with Dylan. At first the guys didn't like the name but it grew on everyone.

Yeah I heard about the story in The Last Waltz, just thought I'd plug that comment in there. On occasion I'll throw their live albums on at parties and when people ask me who they're listening to and I say "The Band" I typically get a "You ****ing with me?" right back.
Been listening to Duane Allman: An Anthology Vol. I & II all day. Fantastic compilations.

Paul Shapiro - Shofarot Verses Ok, this is a Tzadik release, so here's a sampling from the genres that this album covers: klezmer, rock, surf, samba, jazz, R&B, soul, and so on. It has the great Marc Ribot playing guitar on it, and it's a fun and upbeat album full of catchy saxophone riffage and great solos. There's a surprising lack of shofar (ram's horn pictured next to the sax on the album cover) on most of the album though.
